2011 RT Limited Open Right Front Grill

Just a general question as to why the 2011 RT Limited has the right front opening in front of the brake not covered with a grill as compared to the left front openings upper and lower that have webbed looking black grills covering those openings?

At first I thought it must have fallen off or the dealer forgot to install it!

It doesn't look symmetrical. I never noticed it until detailing my bike for the first time. The dealer says it comes that way. There is a large fan present deep to the right opening so I am assuming it helps pull more heat from the engine without a grill present.

I would like other's input. Anyone putting after market grills there to make it look more symmetrical???

Thanks,

Denette

Please excuse if this has been covered before.

:welcome: that is probably a question that only the designer can answer for sure. I hope you didn't spend a lot of time trying to figure out where you were when it fell off.

I think it has to do with air flow, but you can always add a grill if you wish. If you look on line at the Limited they show one being there.:dontknow:

It's even more noticable on my silver RT than on the darker colors so I've thought a lot about why they left it off the right side. Here's what I think happened. When production was beginning on the RT some engineer, designer, assembly specialist, whatever decided that the pieces were identical on both sides so they only made the one piece. Then, when they actually began to put them together, they noticed that the right side took a mirror image rather than an identical piece. It was too late to build the other piece without delaying the introduction so they simply decided to leave it off. If anyone asks, they can always say it enhances airflow.

(Tongue in cheek but just barely.)

The online pics are illustrations. The right side grill is an error. There are aftermarket grills available, although they are not an exact match..
