• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. 2011 Can-Am Spyder RT Comparison

Wish I could trust the gauge or red light but look for gas around 125 miles. I knew on the wing that when the red came on I had a solid gallon left. Looked at miles ridden , divided that by 5 and knew how far I could go before running out. Rt has had the red light on forever and needle buried in red and still only took 4+ gallons.

Do your RT as you did your Wing. Forget the red light thingie...mine has never come on...I figure 30mpg so I go 150 per the odometer and stop for gas, or earlier if in west Texas. I have learned that when the needle hits the top of the red square, I will take about four gallons, otherwise I ignore it. Works for me. JMHO

Thats what I do George, I get gas around 140 miles. Once I get a few more trip miles on it I'll have a better idea of what to expect. Getting ready to head for Tenn riding mostly interstate , 2 up with a trailer will be a good test. Don't think I'll push too much past 125 miles til I see how it goes . I know the wife won't like walking to get gas....LOL

I for one, will NOT be riding a RT, until the power-to-weight ratio is equivalent too or better than my GS...

I had hopes of purchasing a 2012 RT with a significant increase in the HP and torque department...

BRP really stepped up the power in the ATV's for 2012...You can now get an ATV with a 1000 motor...

The Ski-Doo's, Sea-Doo's and ATV's FOLLOW NO ONE...

Maybe 2013 will be the SPYDER'S turn to lead the pack???

I would love to know how you're getting better gas mileage on the RT than a wing. I don't have much time at all on a wing trike but I have a lot of time on the RT towing a trailer in some of the worst riding conditions and I can tell you it handled them all well. I ride the Dragon 3 to 4 times a week and there is no issues there either.

The one think you liked besides the good looks is the one weak point of the RT, I get about 26-28 mpg towing the trailer and about 30 mpg without it on average. So if you're getting 35-40 you have a very special RT, hang on to that thing. :doorag:

My wife and I just returned from a 1,500 mile trip to Florida. She towed her RT trailer with her '10 RTSE and I towed mine with my '11 RTSM. We didn't check every fill up but I ran about 3 or 4 miles per gallon better on the '11 than she did. Maybe the automatic is not as efficient or maybe it is the slightly taller windscreen. On one run we calculated 29 for her rig and 31 for mine. I am convinced that we get better mileage with the trailers attached but we don't carry a lot of weight in them.
We did get worried, running the back roads just north of Fitzgerald, Georgia when her gas light stayed on for some time and then mine came on. The next town was a bit too far and a lady at a roadside fruit stand wasn't too helpful in telling us where the next gas station was. For the first time we used the one gallon emergency tanks we keep in the trailers and that got us to the next place where gas could be found.

PS: I traded my GL 1800 trike in on the Spyder. It was raked and steered very well. I liked it a lot and it would be a toss up for me as to what bike would be best. If my wife hadn't given me the Spyder for my birthday, I would still be driving the Wing. A new Wing with a good trike kit and a easy steer front end will run close to forty thousand dollars so I don't think a test against an RT limited is apples to apples.
