• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2010 RT vs 2012 RT

Are the 2012's significantly better than the 2010's?

I'm tempted - but gotta ask. My manual RT is coming up on 15000 miles and is running well.

If they are really improved, what'd they do to improve them?

In our Opinion, not alot has changed

They changed & added colors

Smaller Windshield & deflectors

Upgraded (in 11') the front shocks (Big Improvement)

The night-time backlighting of the instruments changed from blue to orange

There's a red line now around the face of the Speedo & Tach.

The 12's have better grommets holding in the oil-check tupperware panel

I'm sure we've missed a few things here and there, but all in all, its still the same Spyder

I think that the Frunk button on the dash now operates without having to turn the engine on... Dave hit on all of the others!

The frunk button works while the Spyder is powering up (and before you start the engine) and powering down (after turning the engine off). This gives you a brief time to retrieve things or store things. After the power down cycle is complete, you can open the frunk by inserting the key, pushing-in and turning.

2012 RT-S Spyder

There were not enough changes between 10-11-12 to make me run out and buy another :spyder2: because of new technology. I did buy a 2011 because I had another rider and we wanted to be on our own :spyder2:,s. The 2011 saved me a couple thousand dollars in the process.

It is sounding, (from Lamonts post), like there may be some technology and/or styling changes for the upcoming 2013 model year.

I had a 2010-now a 2012

At the risk of jinxing myself, the 2012 has been trouble free. The 2010 had many recalls-they were fixed, but it was also in the shop a lot. I imagine a good dealer could do al of the recalls on the 2010, and the machine would due fine. I and others had to "suffer" through the first year issues. I kept the 2010 for a year, and sold it for a Burgman scooter. I was a bit concerned about the problems I seemed to encounter. After a year with that decided I missed the Spyder and convinced my wife after a bad bicycle accident that three wheels were much safer.

Either year should be fine with, as many have said over and over again, the right dealer. The dealer I bought the 2010 from never seemed to have the correct information. Most of the recalls were brought to their attention by me after I read about them on this board. Then they argued with me that all of the forums and boards were inaccurate, and most of the people on them complained and used rumors as their source of information. Of course a week later after there was a line-up to get the new parts they told me that there was a recall after all.

I finally talked to the owner and mentioned Lemont to him. His name did seemed to convince him that the information on here "might" be correct. Looking back on the process, I would shave kept the 2010 if I had the right dealer.

The Frunk closure mechanism is different.
The glove box has insulation on the 2012's.
The radio is different with a different IPOD interface.
The cluster has the update so the PTT for the CB works correctly.
I think the 2012's come with iridium plugs initially. I don't know if the plug wires are updated.
The 2012's come with no miles on them....................................

All in all, I hear you. Some good improvements, but not enough to make me jump either.
Of course if the 1200 or 1400 cc engine comes out, that's a different story.

On my 2010 I spent less than 200.00 and installed 2011 front shocks.
My Frunk closure works fine for me.
I removed the glove box insulation (yes my 2010 RT-S had it) as it takes up some space.
I am not into CB's
Most of all I haven't had an ounce of problems, the dealer updates the computer when something comes along.
I have added the mirror chrome, the muffler chrome and a few do-dads.
But Hey! the bigger engine could make me itchy.;) Overall I am very content at this point.
