• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2009 SE5 noisy down shifting

I bought a new 2009 SE5 in late March. Already racked up over 7000 miles. Ever since I got it I noticed a fairly loud clunky sound when down shifting. It seems most pronounced going from 3rd to 2nd. 2nd to 1st is the only quiet shift. Up shifting is sweet. The clunking happens when I manually down shift or let the computer do it. Had it back to the dealer a number of times and they keep telling me it is normal. I drove the dealer demo and it does about the same, but the clunk is not as loud as it is in mine. I'm new to this type of transmission, so I'm not sure what is normal. Can any of you SE5 owners tell me what to expect in the way of noise, if any, when it's down shifting?
I recently switched to Royal Purple. Didn't seem to change the shifting issue, but it does run one bar cooler.:dontknow:

I can't tell you if its normal, but I can tell you that my 2008 SE5 does the same thing...downshifts into 2nd are the harshest of all. It has all the relavent updates done, and I don't (yet) use Royal Purple.

welcome

I have a 2009 SE5 (manufactured in late 2008) and I agree that shifting down to 2 is the "hardest". I have the Hindle exhaust and each downshift (except to 1st) creates a burp (backfire?) from the Hindle.

mine makes some gawd awful noises from 3 to 2nd.. but im used to it now.. if 2nd gears drops out oh well ...warranty tow call..

2009 SE5 noisy shifting

Thanks for all the feedback. Since my last post, I had the belt tension adjusted to the low end of the allowable range. (it was too loose). I also adjusted the gap between the edge of the drive belt and the rim of the rear sprocket to 2.5 mm. They originally had it adjusted tight against the rim of the sprocket. I don't know if it was these changes or the Royal Purple doing it's magic, but the downshifting is greatly improved. It has changed from a clunk to a burp.

well...theres hard and then theres HARD....my 08 se5 has always shifted a little hard on downshifts, but just b4 it locked up it started downshifting so hard it felt as if i was going to go over the bars...after replacing the shift solenoid again, it shifts much smoother.
