There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2008 Spyder seat replacement

Hello All,

I'm new here and love all the information this site has to offer. This spring I bought a 2008 spyder so I can enjoy life a little more on the road. I'm 36 and have been battling cancer the last 18 months. They told me in May that my cancer is terminal, we will see about that. I have to many things yet to accomplish to worry about my cancer being terminal.

Well to get to my question. I'm looking at getting a more comfortable seat for my Spyder. Do any of you have an opinion on the most comfortable seat to replace the factory seat?

I hope all is well, have a great night!

Brian

:welcome: This is a very personal thing. Every seat feels different to every person. If you could attend a Spyder event or meet up with another owner in your area, where someone would be kind enough to let you try a different seat, that would be best. In my opinion, the next best option is to order a custom rebuild, like the Russell Day-Long or Rick Mayer seats. They work from photos of you on the bike, measurements, and your specific wants or needs, to build a seat to fit. Most will make adjustments, but few people need them. Lots of people love the BRP Comfort Seat or the Corbin, too, but they don't agree with me. Like I said, everybody is different when it comes to seats.

I have to agree with Scotty, everybody's butt is different.

Russell Day Long is probably the premier of all the custom seats, but , of course, you get what you pay for, and they are probably the most expensive as well. You also need a motorcycle that will accept the "John Deere Tractor" look.

I have to admit, I have a bias towards Sargent

I had a Sargent seat made for my ST1100, and it made a world of difference.

I have an RT, not an RS. I find the seat is comfortable, but the vinyl is not as robust as would like.

In My Humble opinion, I think a Russell seat might be more applicable to an RT, and a Sargent seat more appropriate to the RS.

Of course, as always, my free advice comes with a double your money back guarantee.

Good luck with everything, including the seat. Keep us posted so we know how you make out.

I have a Russell on my 08 and I love it. The only down side (aside from the price) is that you have to send your old seat in to be rebuilt and you will be without a ride for a few weeks. I bought a used seat on this forum and sent that in.
BTW, I've never seen a Russell on an RT. Anybody got one?

I have the comfort seat and it's a big improvement over stock. Then I added the SRP Racing floorboards and it got a whole lot better. I was seriously planning to go with the Russell before the floorboards. Now, maybe don't need to. If I upgrade it will definitely be to the Day-Long. It's a lot like the Diamond seat I had on my Goldwing trike and that was really good. I had the fabric covering and that was not a problem with rain either. Of course, I do live in the desert where is almost never rains.

I have experience with both the comfort seats and Corbin.

Put a Corbin on both my 2008 and 2010 :spyder2:'s. Over 40,000 seat miles on Corbins.

Put the BRP comfort seat on the 2009 RS and that is a good upgrade from stock. I am biased towards the Corbin seats though.

 I hope you win your battle. :welcome: I have a Corbin and its heated ! Love it, have over 30,000 miles on the Corbin. The heated seat on those early spring or late fall drives sure takes the chill of these tired old bones .

I have the Russell seat on my RS and I love it but if I had it to do over again, I think I would get a KonTour seat mostly because of its seat cover material. Its pricing is similar to Russell's.

Thanks again for all the great advice. I ordered a Corbin seat last Monday and had it by Wednesday. My first thoughts were that it was very firm and a little hard on my bottom. But after riding a few miles I really enjoy the new seat. I don't slide forward any more and I tend not to find myself having to reposition myself every 20 miles. I like it and I'm sure the more broken in it gets, the better it will feel.
