• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2008 GS "hiccup" at highway speeds

I've owned my 2008 GS since 13 JAN 2012 (yes it was Friday the 13th). The unit had less than 2500 miles. This season with just at 7500 miles, I've had an occasional "hiccup" when ryding above 65 mph, and "hiccup" is the best I can describe it. It's almost like a sudden release and restore of the throttle, accompanied by a mild lurch.
Any ideas?

Don't know..!!

but start with the fuel. Add some seafoam and use a known brand for a few tanks. Next check air cleaner/box. Now you may have to move on to plugs and plug wires and possibly coils. On the otherhand it may be nothing if it happen rarely. My RS has these hiccups and I know all is good. If too much have it checked out at your dealer. There may be some update that needs to be installed...

Update - up to almost 9500 miles. Hiccup continued to come and go. Took to dealer for gas cap recall, they scanned BUDDS and said bad rear wheel speed sensor. That was the only stored error code. Replaced both sensors, no change. Removed evaporation canister, replaced spark plugs and wires, no improvement. Changed ignition coil - improvement, no hiccups for a week and a half, then returned. Dealer said no warranty on electric components. "No active error codes" (or is it fault codes?) when interrogated by Mode button/headlight dimmer method. Dealer claims no knowledge of any similar issues, invited me to leave Spyder (and checkbook) with them. Not yet.

I had the problem starting at 60 mph and at 48 mph it stopped. I hadn't put any fuel injector cleaner in it in for a awhile, so at time of fill up. I put in a splash of it in, not much but enough to clean out the injectors and took it back up on the highway. A few good twists of the throttle the problem was gone. I have a 2008 GS SM5 and also used to fill up when the gas line hit 3 bars. Now I wait till the light comes on and than some and will fill up with 93 octane with fresh gas adding a tiny amount of Stable, the same as I use in my boat engine. Its blue in color. Now at every 3000 miles fuel injector cleaner will be added to gas at fill up.

The spark Plug wires have been changed out with better ones from BajaRon, plugs are checked at oil change and the plugs are also from BajaRon. Air filter is taken out and cleaned at oil changes. I have the performance air filter kit, getting rid of the box and makes it simple to get to that front plug.

Their was a time while still under warranty, I was getting a heavy gas smell and took it to the dealer. Everyone could smell the gas but was sent home with the same problem, after a BUDS test. I was still angry and stopped at a local custom cycle shop. They got that front plug out and it was the electrode was burnt to barely a nub. The rear plug had been changed out and brand knew. I left that cycle shop with no gas smell and the tech that worked on it, used to work at the dealer I bought it from and knew what the problem was.

Blip per malfunction

I wonder if it could be some kind of blipper malfunction? Do a search on " blipper". I was reading thru some of it last nite to see if someone else had the symptoms you describe. That might be a place to start. It's probably something simple. Loose or corroded ground wire somewhere?

Coz - thanks for the research. I've checked the ground connections that I've found, wire brushed or sanded the metal surfaces to make shiny. Cleaned battery terminals as well. I'll see what I turn up on the shifter. Whatever it is, it's not registering as a system fault

I would also check and replace the fuel filter. I was having some of the same problems.

Problem Solved

Thanks to everyone who responded.

The final solution (well, it's held for 300 miles) came from Lamont.

I needed to tighten the main frame / battery ground bolt.

The connection was not loose enough to budge by bare hand, but would move with slight pressure from wrench. So I removed the body panels to get a wrench on the nut, and tightened up the bolt with a socket wrench.

I've run several hours / 300 miles at higher RPMs (5500+) and have not had a single hiccup.

As indicated in my thread, there was never a diagnostic code, so my conjecture is that the ground simply wasn't enough to ensure that the various big-current pieces worked correctly all the time - it could have been anything from fuel pump, injector, or coil having intermittent ground. I;ll probably never know for sure; I'm just glad to ryde without hiccups!

I known this is an older post but I really enjoy reading how this forum works together to solve problems! I read these older posts to learn more about my Spyder and your information really helps! Thanks for taking the time to share.

2016 update

The original fix has held, no "hiccups" for over a year. Remember that frame ground tap under the seat when troubleshooting!
