• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2 dead Garmin Zumo 450s in less than a month....

Wonder what the difference is from the 550...perhaps just a bigger screen? The 550 is already a great gps with bluetooth and music capability...

The Zumo 450 will do me just fine (providing it keeps working) for many years, I hope. :)

Now, however; when the Spyder is garaged, I remove the Zumo from the cradle. All is well.

And, now; I goofing with the fuel meter, and everything!

Life is such a Hoot! :2thumbs:

This will be my next gps

Because its getting hard to find an iWay or is there something else you like about this new Garmin?

excuse my ignorance but.....

What is a Evoluzione Powerbus?
I am plannong on getting a Zumo for my ride and was going to connect it to the battery as well.

Is that not the way to install it?
apparently not.

I've had my Zumo 450 mounted to my Spyder 24/7 for the past 7 months without the Zumo 450 dying on me. Could it be where your mounting point is? Excessive vibration? Mine is powered through the Evoluzione Powerbus so its only powered when the Spyder's ignition key is on. The only thing I noticed with my Zumo 450 in all this time is that any time my Spyder sits for more than 6 hours or more, it takes the GPS about 2 minutes to acquire the satellites. It didn't used to take that long. :dontknow:

The Evoluzione Powerbus (enter site and click on Can Am)provides 6 additional fused power points for connecting electrical accessories. It consists of the fused power block, a relay, a 30 amp main fuse and all the wiring to hook it up. The 30 amp main fuse goes in the fuse block under the seat, is wired through the relay and powers the 6 terminal fuseblock. The relay is powered through the Spyder's switched accessory power. When the key is on, there is power to the Powerbus. When the key is turned off, the power to the Powerbus will be turned off too (after the Spyder's 10 - 15 second off delay). The Powerbus isn't necessary for connecting any electrical accessories but there are three main reasons why I got it.

1. It gives me six easily accessible fused terminals to connect power if and when I need it. I don't have to remove the panels to get to the battery when I want to connect things to 12 volts. Also, I don't have to buy and connect inline fuse holders for anything that I wanted to connect that didn't come with some type of fusing.

2. I have a common location and easy access for fuses in the added accessories power connection. I don't have to pull panels to find an inline fuse holder to check for a blown fuse if I lose power. Also, the entire Powerbus is protected by a 30 amp main fuse so if something goes horribly wrong with one of the added accessories or the Powerbus itself, it lessens the chance of causing additional damage to the Spyder or the battery.

3. When I turn the Spyder off, all my accessories will turn off too. I don't have to worry about forgetting to turn off something that may drain the battery. That's probably not an issue with one GPS connected directly to the battery unless the Spyder was not run for a long time but a GPS, radio, heated gear, etc. connected directly to the battery would drain the battery if the Spyder wasn't run for a day or two.

Evoluzione is not the only place you can find something like this if you were interested in it. It was just one of the first places that made something easily connected to the Spyder that served those needs. A few people have made some form of this by getting the components at a local store and doing their own powerbus design. I think No Magic Neon also sells a similar product.
