2-Bros juice Box & Ken's O2 Modifier

Running the Hindle and the racing air filter, also have the o2 modifier. I'm not sure when the problem actually started, but I'm pretty sure it was probably after the Hindle install. I bought the bike with 700 miles on it and put the hindle on very shortly after getting the bike. After having the surging issues, I ordered and put on the o2 mod to try to correct it, (did the battery reset thing, etc) and the other night I put in the racing air filter...this however seems to have aggrivated the issue as it is now worse than it was before. Now I have this extra loud bike due to the new air system with a surging issue to boot...grrr

If you have a lean condition from the modified exhaust, and the O2 modifier is insufficient to cure it, adding more air with a race intake will only make things far worse. Without any way to change the Spyder's fuel mapping, you are forced to resort to tricks to get more fuel into the engine. It sounds as though even replacing the O2 modifier with a JuiceBox may not be enough to make it work with the combination you have now. I suspect you will probably be forced to jack up the fuel pressure next. Making a bunch of bolt-on, unrelated mods without access to the ECU program or dyno runs, often results in poorer performance than what you started with.

I ran the race air flow filter, Juice Box, stock O2 sensor and home-made duals for a week or so... everything worked just dandy with the Juice Box's "from the factory" settings... very dandy, in fact. The duals flow better than the Hindle, BTW.

But, a little off topic, I removed the race filter due to intake noise. I did retain the JB but with lower settings for the stock air box... works fine. It's definitely stronger than pure stock.

So let's be clear here - did you get the actual Race Airflow system where you remove the entire airbox? Or did you just get the drop-in filter?

If you're using the race airflow system - then you're going to want to get more fuel into the system since you've got better airflow.

Two current ways of doing it - fuel pressure mod or Juice Box.

I run the race aiflow system, fuel pressure mod, O2 mod and cold air intakes and my Spyder runs like a bat outta hell!

Do you wear earplugs while riding?

This is a good idea just to cut down on the air noise and save your ears - and it also will cancel out any noise you might hear from the race airflow setup.

I did with the race air filter. Still wasn't enough.

Wow. I just bought a 50 pack of the cheap 'roll and stuff' orange ear plus units and I cannot hear the intake noise at all when riding now.

You were putting them in your ears weren't you? :D

Just a thought here but do most of you realize that whenever you are past 3/4 throttle and / or under high engine load conditions you are not in closed loop and the O2 sensor data is discarded? Nothing is EVER learned for those areas of the map regardless of the pipe or ECM piggyback system used. A pulse width modifier such as the Juice Box will fill in those gaps and even with the O2 sensor data left untouched it can work quite nicely. In fact, if you want to have additional fuel in the high load / high performance sections of the map AND retain near stock levels of fuel economy and driveability you modifications to the O2 sensor data needs to be very minor, something on the order of less the 250mv or you'll drive the O2 sensors out of their effective range and force the ECM to either switch to open loop or over correct the fuel mixture and introduce some weird driveabilty issues.

The O2 mod only helps with the low end, race airflow & fuel pressure mod or juicebox can take care of the rest.

I run the Race Airflow, Fuel pressure mod at 62 psi, o2 mod and dual cold air intakes and my Spyder goes like a bat outta hell - even with my fat arse on it!

Just might have to order some pistons and cams from Ken this coming winter for a fun project!

Pistons and cams? Oh man, don't tempt me!
My spyder is finally running good again, surging gone, at least on day one after putting the juicebox on it. Had a few issues with the error codes, but it work itself out. Its a pretty easy install, with the exception of one of the injector clips that is hard to see and get to. I am now running the racing air flow system, stock o2 and the juicebox, seems to be the winning combination to stop the surge with the hindle. The airbox is loud for sure, but only at throttle and I can now cruise past the normal rpm range (3700-4500) in any gear without getting that flat and out of power for that gear feeling.
