• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

1st successful oil change in the books!

UCLA F3S

Thanks to the excellent intel on here and specific member feedback on panel removal on the F3S, I completed my first successful oil change this evening

Indeed, the toughest part was snaking the oil filter housing cap out of the bike. I temporarily moved the brake fluid reservoir, and that gave me just enough space to get it out.

Popped in the new filter kit from Bajaron and dumped in 5 quarts of Amsoil 10W40 (also from Bajaron). Put all the tupperware back and lit the Batpod back up...she's good to go!

Looking forward to doing the oil change on Gipsy Danger when my wife hits 3k (a little more tupperware to pull off, it looks like :) )

One thing of note, for you fellow F3'ers that have yet to do your first oil change, pick up a 36mm ratcheting wrench like the unit from GearWrench (below) to remove the oil filter housing cap. You'll be glad you did! It's VERY difficult to get a 36mm socket in there (even with the brake reservoir move).

Did you try using an extension on the socket?

I think the socket was too tall. It barely fit in there, and then adding the actual socket wrench, it was a "no go." I tried with a Powerbuilt 36mm axle nut socket (I believe it's what Vegas used on his RT oil change write up).

I'm glad it didn't work out the first time with that. The ratcheting 36mm was a breeze to use.

Congrats. ..

:yikes: you did go on to warm up the engine and re-check your oil level.... recommended is to add less than the capasity and check level and top off. Too many overfill by adding the capasity listed all at once and end up with oil leaks... congrats on the completion of your first oil change. You are now set up for all the ones to come...:2thumbs:

Yes, proper warm up was indeed done...just neglected to mention that part ;)

I did a slow fill of the 5 quarts and no leaks...it helped that I let the bike drain for a good, solid 2 days before re-filling the crankcase :roflblack:
