• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. 1st Mod, After market backrest installation complete

1st Post, just got a 2008 Premier edition spyder used on 1/1 and completed my first Mod. I installed the after market back rest because i already spent more than i should have getting the spyder and could not choke down the $500 bucks for the backrest and "sport rack (really?)" from Can Am. this ran about $190 including shipping from Oh Canada and turned out pretty nice. Its not rounded like the can am one which would have been nice but as i say, hey i dont have to ride back there so no problem for me :)

They have a nice looking saddlebag kit i am also considering for about 500 vs. the 1200 for the Givi and mounting and even then you have to relocate turn signals from what i understand. Anyone has any good bag options please let em know. Other than that Risers are the main thing i am after and can't decide on those either. I dont think the 1" is going to be enough so im looking at the custom dynamics one, the kewl metal or phoenix are just too much money and i dont like the way one makes you relocate the key.

risers

the easy risers are nice, i've had mine for three years. you can use any risers that fit 7/8 's bars. dogbones, snowmobile, ect. there are some VERY cheap alternatives. just don't go beyond 4 .5 inches or cables won't reach.

Very nice..!!

good looking backrest. Good job and yeah their acc are way out there in price. You can find deals but you have dig about. Parts are better priced at...cheapcycleparts.com...for oem parts and ebay and amazon have good deal from time to time. Glad you found your spyder its a great vehicle and you have the original...:clap:

Welcome to the Spyder World, now go get a second job so you can farkle it up.

And don't forget to check the blinker fluid.

Thanks all

I have seen some risers on ebay that look like regular bar risers for a bike and say they fit and are cheap but i dont see how those could work. The custom dynamics ones seem to be the only viable option at this point since i cant drop 370 on just the part and the can am 1" ones i dont think will be enough so i think im going to pull the trigger on that. Everyone seems to be happy with them and it seems as though whatever type of riser they bought everyone though it was a great mod and worth it.

As for having one of the original does that spell bad news? Are the premier more prone to issues or anything? This has 17k on it and i got it for around 7k even.

Here are the bags i was looking at.

great price

that's a great price on your bike Tony. you did well. the 08 gs is a great bike. very reliable i would say. sm or se ? sm being a little more reliable than the se. there's just less to break. both are good. the bags seem like a good deal at 500.

Thanks all, this site is already 10x better than the other spyder site and as good as my yamaha fz6r site. i was beginning to think spyder owners were not very helpful starting over there :)

Glad to hear everyone thinks it was not a bad deal. Its an SM5, i actually had a chance to get a 09 with only about 5000 miles for less than 8 but the guy was stalling and it had the automatic and i really felt better about the manual. Gives you more to do while your riding, im used to it having 2 bikes and my brothers RT is manual and when i test rode the F3 i didnt like the fact you couldnt coast on the SE. Plus if i got an automatic my wife would want to ride it :) I can see where it would be cool to have though if your commuting on it which i am not. Im also glad to hear the premier isnt any more prone to problems then the others, i am the proud owner of #588 and although it has more miles (17k) it is pristine without a scratch on it and all records etc. plus i have the Hindle exhaust that he had on there i am going to sell, if anyone is interested. My wife just wants the quieter version and i can put the money towards bags.

Going to put in the cargo trunk plug next, then after the bar risers new grips. Then finally the bags when i can save up a few more bucks.

Someone was interested in more pictures of the backrest.
3 weeks on and several passenger rides with no issues.

Those saddlebags look great, make sure to post pics and reviews when you get them,I have the same bike although not a premier edition

I have that same backrest mount, it was a PITA to install, I've been slowly accumulating the parts to install the factory backrest on my spyder buying them used from ebay.

Besides the PITA installation will that backrest rotate forward so that the driver can use it if no passenger??

If i could install the backrest in around half hour being the most unmechanical person i know i would not say that it was a PITA. in fact i would say it was easy. No it does not come forward for a drivers back rest. There is one out there that does that but it went from 191 shipped to about 530 shipped so i did not think it worth it. I am still happy with this and way better off than the $500 can am set up.

Having to remove all the tupperware, and than installing it on the seat pan was a bit of work, just having so many fasteners to remove. After piecing together the Can am one, It's a very nice setup and a good bit of engineering went into it, I wouldnt pay full price for one, but at about half of what they're asking now i'd gladly buy it.

Premier Edition?

What is the Premier Edition? I have a 2008 GS and I thought the only other options were an SM5 or an SE5. What did I miss?
