There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Thanks....

Great little history lesson. South America being more european influenced had all those great scooters and I remember them well. The Vespa and Lambretta's were the newapaper delivery favorites. they could stack papers from the deck to the chin and carry a passenger who ran the paper to the door.. thanks for the video..

Hi OJ UK,

Re: 1962 was a while back....

I was stationed there in '62. I was more impressed with the motorcycles and their sidecars; radios, heaters, windshields, fabric covers; Mama had all the comforts of home.

I can relate. I started as a rocker in the 60's in London on a BSA 250, but all my mates were mods on scooters so a change was in order. Enter a fully chromed Lambretta TV 175, not as many lights and mirrors as the previous example, but decked out with front and rear racks and me in my official US parka. Oh what a glorious time that was, thanks for the memories OJ.

I had a 1955 Cushman Eagle scooter in '58 to '63. It's interesting that the Brits were touting scooters so enthusiastically in 1962. That was the time that Honda was killing Cushman with their 50cc Cub here in the US. Electric start, automatic clutch, step through frame, faster, and a whole lot more stable! First Cubs came to Idaho in 1960 I think. This pic shows a Cushman almost exactly like the one I had, even the color! Cushman scooters died in February 1966.

Can you tell us anything about the "Mods Versus The Rockers"?

Our groups back then in Liverpool called ourselves Mockers. We dressed cool but didn't have the bikes.
Good times

Bob,

The video is a pretty good report on what happened in Clacton and other beachside towns in those days. The telling moment is the young man saying that the root cause was boredom. Boredom has fueled so many teenage revolutions over the generations, especially in Britain, and it's reflected in the music, clothes and hairstyles of the day. Mods were the style leaders, and rockers typically wore leather jackets, blue jeans, and long hair slicked back with Brylcreem.

Strangely enough, during the week at school or work, we got along just fine, but come the weekend, we went a little crazy. There was no hatred, at least not by anyone that I knew, we just needed a way to let off steam and fighting each other seemed like a logical choice. Not all the British of the day wore bowler hats and rolled up brollies (umbrellas).

So you were a "trans-ganger"? ;)
