• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

April 15, 1952. Maiden flight of the B52 bomber. And it's still the go to bomber of choice for USAF.

Who said..!!

the good die young...they don't make them like they used to but they don't mess with the best...!! :firstplace:

Lived just a couple miles east of March AFB runway years ago. A very busy SAC base in the cold war era. Does 'on water' mean anything to you guys?

I got up close to one at Clark in the Philippines. That was the first time i seen one on the ground, But i did see and ''feel'' what they can do from 30 thousand feet. Twice we had them level the playing field in front of us,. in the Highlands [nam66/67] and that was with dumb bombs. You cannot believe the holes they make in the triple canopy.
Awesome, Thanks for posting.......

Yep, sure does. The old P&W J57 used on 52s and KC135s used water injection for the first two minutes of takeoff to boost takeoff rated thrust (TRT). TRT was limited to 5 minutes max continuous operation. After that mil rated thrust (MRT) could be used for 30 minutes. Normal rated thrust (NRT) culd be used continuously. Holy crap, I can't belive I still remember that.

Hope to see you in The Voltage Trailerhood.

As a mere

I remember like it was yesterday, spending my formative years in Amarillo Texas. Each year, the Amarillo Air Force base would open up to us school kids.It was a lot of look but don't touch time, but we got to see the aircraft that flew out over our homes day and night up close. This was during the era of the Cuban Missile Crisis and Dr. Strangelove both. What a time to be an imaginative child living next to a SAC base. No wonder I grew up to ride missile boats.

Old, creaky, not as fast as the younger guys, but still gettin' the job done! That goes for the B52 also! :D Crawled thru many of them going thru AFROTC. Always wanted to fly one, but never really wanted to be in SAC and live in a bunker on alert. Such was the mission during the cold war era. But the B52 will impress you every time! What a machine!

Belly down on the trolley, pull yourself aft. The cockpit was a little intimate too.

!961- B52 carrying two Mark 39 nuclear devices broke up over Faro, NC near Goldsboro. Only one of those devices was ever recovered. The other is presumed to still be buried in the farmers field. Those particular devices could not be detonated without codes.

Holy :cus: Jerbear!!!!!:2thumbs: I bet they had to change their shorts after that flight!!!:yikes: What's the old saying about flying, any landing you can walk away from is a good 1!!!
