• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

18.4 MPG

We have been getting 35 to 37 mpg consistently on our 2010 RT in warm weather. The mileage is less in the winter because of the gas formulation I believe, about 3 mpg. Last trip Sunday and Monday Harrisburg Pa. to Erie and back, some interstate mostly country two lane through the hills. 37.5 mpg over 650 miles traveled. Manual transmission and don't do anything different than with any of our other bikes. Incedentally it gets almost identical mileage as our 99 Kawasaki Nomad 1500, not fuel injected, and about 10 less than our 2004 HD Ultra Classic.:dontknow: Usually ride with the windscreen set low, that may make some difference I suppose. :doorag:

Replied to wrong thread

:opps: Sorry, thought I was replying to "average mileage for RT" thread. Don't pull a trailer so my results don't apply to your situation exactly.:D

Pretty cool Thread. I think my wife and I are the odd balls so far. We have not yet ever checked mileage on our RT. Now to be fair, we think Five tanks in a row from the same station, doing the same driving style and conditions, are how to properly get an idea of true mileage. Just how we do it...

That said... I think if we stay in what I call the sweet spot of RPMs on the RT (4200-4500), I have seen my best mileage. This is usually when the gas light has come on and I am now looking for gas

Other than that... We honestly do not care. We just make sure we have $20 cash on us for those times (In case they have no CC ability at that time).

This is being used as a instrument to help us heal from the loss of our 21 year old Son last year. So folks can say what they want about no one caring about mileage, there is always those out there that do and do not... :doorag::2thumbs:

I remember reading a couple weeks ago under the GENERAL tab someone had developed a homemade muffler that had dramatic results in horsepower and mileage. Have not seen much since then. Perhaps Scotty knows. These RT's needs help in both departments IMHO. But I still love it to death.

Don't look to me for help. There is no magic elixer! For the most part, things that claim to increase your gas mileage are as spurious as perpetual motion machines. You can't change the laws of physics. The Spyder is both large and aerodynamically dirty, so mileage will never be fantastic. Outlawing the ethanol in our gas would help us all, but first we have to elect some legislators with more than three working brain cells.

Wow Scotty, You're givin'm 2 more credits than I would.

Our fuel consumption has not changed on fuel-ups 29-32. The winds have really been heavy this season. We have yet to take a trip and run a constant speed to find out what an average would be. this last fuel-up was 4.6 @ 176 mi. She rides this thing conservative..45-60mph. We're leaving out next week for a road trip from Tx to Ark. over to Col. and down thru N.M. Most of this will be site-seeing backroads.
IMHO the only way to acheive better mileage is to change the final drive pulleys. But get ready to give up something along the way. Most likely top end performance.. But like one member states in his signature...When things get tough.."Downshift"

I'll be sure to log our fuel intake and consumption on both the :spyder2:& the Bagger pulling the tear-drop trailer...

The Spyders 27 to 33 mpg that seems to be the norm pending on the sea-level and E-fuel content. If you look and compare that to trikes you will see they are inline/comparable with what the trikes are getting mpg.

think this is the one you are referring to ??

I intend on testing this out, building many combos to see what works (in the next few months) ... sound / performance / MPG. I get a consistant 26 to 28 mpg now on the pure stock RT-AC SE5. Not driving conservative nor racing it, just my normal mode (mix of city and hgwy). We shall see & I'll post the results. :2thumbs:
