• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

15000 mile checkup

I would like your thoughts on the costly fifteen thousand mile checkup, I had some mechanics tell me it was not needed.

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong manual or model but the 15000 looks just like 5000.
The Bigee at 12K is the valve clearance and I think it can be skipped if you aren't into high revving.
But that is only my opinion and I am not a very good mechanic.

I agree with Roger, and I too am not a very good mechanic. Hell, I'm not a mechanic at all. I did play one on TV one time. <smiles>

VALVES

From what I've read and heard here about the VALVES needing to be checked ..........it sounds like almost none have needed ( actual ) adjustment till somewhere after 30,000 + miles. Since the Dealers make a lot of money on this service Hopefully they actually do it ........Because how would you know ???..Mike :yikes:

Service

Per a BRP service interval change some months ago. What used to be a 12K major was changed to 14K. Except in Ca. Whether, what, and how you decide to comply is a personal choice and may or may not cause you problems. Should you have a warranty situation with something you decided to opt out on.

Not telling you what to do. Just what to consider when you decide.

This scenario is discussed here often. A little research of past threads will shine some additional light on the subject.

Good luck with your choices.

Re: Valve checks. I have done them on two different machines. The 2008 had it at the first recommend service interval. The check was done on the RTS at 28,000 miles. Neither one of the intervals required any adjustments. Cost is $600-$800 extra based on dealer rates. I do not anticipate more valve checks unless the :spyder2: starts acting funny.

The new 1330 ACE engine does not require any valve checks.

was on the phone this morning with my dealer going over the 13,500mile recommended scheduled maintenance and what was on the list. (original 4,500 mile interval x 3) oil change, filter, new plugs not needed as they were changed about 2000 miles before, not doing rear wheel bearing replacement or valve adjustment. mechanic says he has seen spyders with 40,000 miles on them where no adjustment was needed. as to the the bearings on the rear, i would sure hope they last more than 13,000 miles. taking my chances!!!
