15/16 Changes

I've been looking at the F3S and F3T.
The better deals can of course be had on the 15 model.
My dealer states they are the same other than color.
My question, other than paint are there any differences or changes from 15 to 16?

Well, the F3T obviously has a different rear end (swing arm/shock), capable of towing a trailer, and built in luggage. Plus a giant "forehead" with a radio and (I think) an adjustable windshield.

Other than that, mechanically I believe they are the same.

For the price difference, you could get a 2015, buy the longest warranty you can, saddlebags and windshield of your choice and still have money left over. They even sell trailer hitches now, although BRP says that aftermarket hitches void the warranty but some states have laws that don't allow that unless the hitch itself caused the problem.

they must be some "small" different, example if you want to Install that LED Light below trunk, you need an adaptercable for the F3 2015 Modell, the 2016 it fits directly,so the wiring must be different.... Motor ist the same how I know

I was thinking there might be some small changes and that's the curiosity.
I thought there were some bottoming out issues on the 15 that were corrected.
My guess is just shock work which would be an easy fix.
Small wiring items or LED's are also a non issue.
Cruise and heated grips, as suggested by others is a simple upgrade so I might even look at the basic F3.
I just want to make sure nothing HUGE that I should be aware of (like broken timing chains or ecu defects or frame issues) were corrected from 15-16.

Most notable are the saddlebags which really make the styling really pop and was what sold me on the F 3 T
:spyder2::yes:

The only difference I know is the bracket for that ligh which you can add through BRP parts to the 2015... I have the 2015 F3S..

2016 F3T or Limited has major cluster/ shield area difference plus more

Hi,
The 2016 F3T or Limited has major changes and improvements in wind protection, comes with a improved windshield, sidebags, shocks, & can tow a trailer, etc.
It is worth the extra $$ to buy a 2016 F3T or Limited!!
2016 F3T or Limited Front cluster is same as a RT with temp, clock, miles showing all the time.
The 2016 F3T or Limited has a cluster with built in mirrors similar to a RT dash.
Has much improve Sachs shocks.
An RT swingarm with RT rear shock and rear air bladder filled with air manually to adjust ride height (no bottoming on rear like a 2015 F3).
2016 F3T or Limited in a beautiful Intense Red color; or all Black SS, etc.
2016 F3 Limited comes with radio, footboards, heated grips; cruise control comes on both 2016 F3T and Limited.
2016 F3T or Limited has a RT muffler (for much quieter ride than noisy/smaller shorty 2015 F3 muffler).
Same awesome 1330cc in line triple engine, great torque, good fuel mileage, 225 mile range on 7.1 gas tank with top fill.
(You can spend a bunch of money on a 2015 F3 but still will not get it to the 2016 F3T or Limited major improvements!!
(my 2 cents of experience from 1 year 18,000 miles on 2015 F3S SE6 with all Touring mods built/added to mine).
Enjoy.
Jim

Good post! I have been told several times that for the cost difference I could get a left over 15 and turn it into a 16 F3T. Not true at all. You nailed it. I pick up my 2016 F3 Limited this coming Wednesday.

OK
That's the information I was looking for Jim, Thank You. I just couldn't imagine the engineering and effort that went into the improved rear suspension.
That alone is worth the price of admission.
Then the gauge package and other goodies almost make the extra cost worthwhile.
Although $6500. off was a pretty fantastic discount I'll just have to get over it. Especially for better suspension for the wife:-)

Salesman told me the same. He was way to quick to answer and that got me to thinking.
In the long run I'll be glad I spent the extra dollars:-)

One last question
Any difference between the F3S for 15 and 16?

I am not sure on that question. I dont like the new F3T, They turned the F3 into an RT and if you want a touring Spyder I would recommend the RT over the F3 T. I dont think the new bags on the F3 T can store a helmet anyway.

Naaawwww I don't like the big ole trunk on the RT nor do I want Can Am's audio system.
I also much prefer the looks of the F3.
I'm certainly after the F3S or F3T but thanks for the input.

Not "some states have laws".......it's a Federal Law.

I've heard that too. But once you see, feel and ride an F3T or Limited the difference becomes wildly apparent. With everything i am hearing about shock and frame issues on the '15 I would much rather go for the improvements, just in that area alone, of the '16.

The F3T and Limited is NOTHING like an RT except that they both have three wheels and a fairing: that's about it. To each his own, though. I know people love the RT but I don't know how people ride them. They feel like you're sitting on a bar stool at a dinner table. And the inertial characteristics in the handling leave a lot to be desired. I am leery of having to change a sway bar in anything brand new to get it to handle decently.

When I started my interest in Can Am over a year ago I was looking, seriously, at the RT. But I just couldn't like that thing. Something told me to wait and I am really glad I did. If I bought an RT and then saw the F3T come out I would be :banghead: right now for not waiting.

Your paying a lot for saddlebags on the new F3T and it still cant fit a helmet. Lamo

Hi spyderiderjim,

What does "bottoming on rear" mean? :dontknow:

inertia

The F3T and Limited is NOTHING like an RT except that they both have three wheels and a fairing: that's about it. To each his own, though. I know people love the RT but I don't know how people ride them. They feel like you're sitting on a bar stool at a dinner table. When I started my interest in Can Am over a year ago I was looking, seriously, at the RT. But I just couldn't like that thing. Something told me to wait and I am really glad I did. If I bought an RT and then saw the F3T come out I would be :banghead: right now for not waiting.[/QUOTE The inertia issue with the R T / F T 3 was another big consideration in my choice and after riding the F 3 with a lower center of gravity i'm glad we went that way . You can feel the side pull on your body going into tight turns , the lower the better , just my 2 cents :chat:

Hi spyderiderjim,

What does "bottoming on rear" mean? :dontknow:

Darren,
The 2015 F3 rear shock has a 360# too weak spring & not stiff enough dampening on stock rear shock, so it totally bottoms out with rear shock compressing until end of shock travel is a solid hit, putting tremendous stress on 2015 F3 rear frame subsection that BRP has acknowledged cracks the rear frame area!!
I have an Elka stage 2 rear shock with a 800# Eibach spring (8" long x 2 1/4" ID) that lifts rear to normal ride height even with 2 up riding!!
So you can see the stock rear BRP F3 shock spring is way too soft for even the driver in normal riding.
The 2 up 2015 F3 BRP shock replacement with a little stiffer spring probably works ok for driver only.
But I would suggest using that $200 toward buying a Elka stage 2 rear shock with a much stronger spring/dampening set up for your riding style!!
The 2016 F3T & Limited solved the rear shock bottoming by installing a rear RT air dampener that you can adjust the air pressure to lift up rear for a stiffer ride for 2 up riding.
Hope this explains rear shock bottoming for you: bottoming is NOT good.
Enjoy.
Jim
