• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. $133 for a replacement key?!? WTF

I bought my Spyder used last year and the owner could not locate the spare key. I figured I'd inquire at my local shop today as to how much a new key would cost. The key itself is $35 and 1 hour labor at $98 to program the key. They seemed a little surprised that I was surprised a key could cost $133. That's plain ridiculous.

Yikes!!! :yikes: That does seem a bit high. I got the key on ebay for $22 and the dealer charged me $28 to program it. AND I didn't even buy the bike from him!
Seem to me the guy is trying to gouge you...

Actually they would have to program both keys since it wipes out the code of the original. But I would inquire in other dealers...

$35 for the key isn't unreasonable. However, 1 hour labor? :yikes: What are they doing? Typing in the data by keyboard one byte at a time? :gaah:

Do you have any other dealers within ryding range? I'd grab the key blank and go on a road truip... $98 for the re-proreaaming of 2 keys is just plain silly! :gaah:

:welcome: That's the price for a dozen, whats the price for just one?:roflblack:

All kidding aside some dealers do charge that much, And a lot of dealers charge half that. You'll have to do a search on this forum.

That is BS!!.. The Key is about 35.00 the dealer I got my extra key from charged me $45.. and the Hour for Programing it is a pure lie.. Here is what is envolved in programing a new key.. they put the Master Key in the Spyder, then your original key, then your new key and it is done.. the process takes less than two minutes.. Look for a New Dealer.. because they are taking you for a ride and are totally dishonest...

Talked to second dealership. They are charging $32 for the key and $30 if its the master key, and $100 if its not to program it. I ask how do I know if its the master key and they said I would not be able to. They would know when they start the programming process.

This type of rip off is not limited to BRP. I lost a BMW and a Buick key and both cost over $140 each to replace with the "programming"... This fancy high tech keys are more of a nuisance than the security is worth I think some days.

Mine was in total $65.00 and it was done in about 5 min. I guess I finally got lucky with something at that dealership!

That appears to be the going rate. I agree with plain ridiculous.

Very sad to see that kind of dealers out there. They don't even try to hide the fact that they are doing the highway robbery. Guess they got you coming and going.

Did you ask how much extra a good lube would be?

My dealer told me $50 for the key and to program it, but I had to take it out and have it cut by someone since they did not have the capability to cut a key. :gaah:

My (used) RT came with just one key, so I bought the blank key, had it cut, and then I found a dealer that would program it, for No Charge !

Yes, that is now my regular dealer for service and I will buy my next Spyder from them.

Not an unreasonable price...if you lose some key fobs these days, they can run you up to $300.00.

$133 for the Spyder key isn't all that bad...cheaper is better, obviously...

I was talking to a guy who repossess cars and trucks and he said that the banks would get an extra copy of the key in case they ever have to reposess the vehicle. Does anyone know if that is true? If true, there could be another avenue for a key.
