12v outlet in trunk dead.

So I went to plug in my GPS on Saturday and found that the dealer installed 12volt outlet in the trunk was dead. Tried another device just to make sure it was not the GPS adapter and was still dead.

Next I popped open the fuse and relay bank, and noticed that the two 3amp accessory slots didn't have a fuse. So I used the spare 3amp in either of them to see if maybe the dealer forgot to insert the fuse. Still no power and that was with bike running.

I'll probably stop by the dealer to have the recall update done and have them make this right - I don't have time right now to go digging around in the Spyder until July 4th week.

That said, any ideas?

No good

I hate incompetence, especially when you have to take time to fix other's mistakes. I hope they move you to the top of the priority list. In/ out and back on the road.

You should not have to install a fuse if they used the spare plug. I didn't on mine that is. I would check to make sure it is connected to the plug and snug. If you have a volt meter, check that as well. Remember, spyder must be turned on to use it.

Does the outlet just snap in and out? I'm assuming that it may just be a loose connection on the back side as the wiring is supposed to be there on all Spyders..

???

There is a connector that comes on the spyder that has been already wired to the fuse box. The 12V adapter just plugs into that connector. I didn't mount mine in the trunk, I mounted mine right outside of it so I can run my GPS plug to it without have to put it in the trunk. Some have mounted it in the dash. It may not be connected. Just drive up to Raleigh and we can have a look..lol.

You do have to install a fuse in the switched accessory slot if they used the factory wiring. Our dealer forgot to install one, because the outlet directions did not say to do so. My guess is that your dealery neglected to pull the wiring harness out from under the left frame extension and hook up the connectors. If you are not using the unswitched accessory wiring for anything, I would not leave it fused, BTW.

I installed the outlet last Friday. If you take of the left front panel you should be able to see the back of the outlet and check if the connectors are plugged in.

I had to install a fuse in the "accessory" space in the fuse box for the outlet to work.

The outlet has a plastic nut on the backside of the trunk that tightens it up. You will see whats up after taking off that panel.

Did the outlet ever work, or is this the first time you ve tryed it?

This must be an aftermarket outlet. The BRP outlet has no wires attached, and the factory wiring has no inline fuse.

Installed mine, OEM part from the dealer. There was no fuse in the slot in the fuse box, so just used one of the spare 3A from the lid.

What in line fuse? I installed my 12V outlet BRP P/N 710001316. It did not come with an in line fuse. Has BRP changed something? Is this an after market 12V outlet?

Scotty and Randy .. Well I guess it is an aftermarket part ..Fuse is in line up of the box. .Ordered it with bike at new so thought it was a BRP part ..but I guess not!..
