12300 Mile Maintenance on 2014 RTL

Got my 12300 (actually 12500) mile maintenance done today on my 2014 RTL. I wrote a glowing detailed report on the 2014 RTL after 1000 miles and published it here. Overall it still stands. With the 2500 miles I rode on the test bike this brings me to 15000 2014 RTL miles in 5 months without a single mechanical issue. To say I am happy with this ride is a serious understatement.!!!

I checked the oil right before taking the bike in. Not a drop of oil used in the last 9400 miles and the color of the oil had barely darkened from the original input oil.. Clearly this low rpm engine is a lot easier on oil and I suspect we will see many fewer folks with stories of adding oil frequently

Only issue of significance is with the tires. I had to replace the front tires at 8000 miles ( put on 165 federals). Clearly the low profile tires need to be maintained at 20psi or you can kiss them goodbye quickly. I then replaced the rear tire at 11500 with a Kumho Ecsta AST (I guess this is better than most).. The increased torque seems to be eating the rear tire quickly for many 2014 RT s requiring them to replace at as little as 6000 miles

The maintenance took only two hours as accessibility has been improved on the 2014 RT. I am pleased and quite comfortable to know my next maintenance is nearly 10000 miles away. - 4 months if I can slow my riding a little... Have fun folks.. This ride keeps getting better.

I agree with you the 2014 is an amazing machine. I'm at 15,000 miles also but my split was 5,500 on the test bike and I'm at 9,600 on my own bike. I'll be changing the rear tire tomorrow but my front tires still look good. The front tires on the test Spyder were showing signs of cupping at 8,500 miles.

What tire pressure were you running on the original front tires?

Thanks..!!

great report and congrats on the mileage traveled. Your a real mover...good to know how well the machine is performing aside from tires which has been a problem. Ryde on..be safe..!! :2thumbs:

Before the new bulletin from BRP setting the front tires on 2013 and 2014 at 20psi, they had put pressure on dealers to maintain front at 15. I was negligent at not double checking the tire pressures so they were running too low. Now I run 22 psi in front and 28 in the back and love the feel

amazing you have that many miles on it already. today it hit 87 degrees out and i will not leave the house till it get's back to the 70's

I hadn't heard about that bulletin. I'd better check mine today

If I'm not mistaken the 2014 owner's manual calls for 20 + or - 2 PSI for the front tires and 28 + or - 2 PSI for the rear. I'm running 20 in the front and 28 in the rear. Rear tire is about worn out in the center with almost 6900 miles on the odometer, fronts are looking good.

If you've gotten that close to 7,000 miles on the original rear tire:  :2thumbs:
Thanks for the info, Do!
It just keeps on getting better with each ride! :D
