12 Volt Plug Connector

I am installing two power plugs into my Spyder in a custom place. However does anyone have a pic where the stock connector is to plug into for the 12volt plug?? I also need to find out what kind of connector so I can connect to it as I am making a custom harness.

12 volt plug

the stock brp 12 volt plug mounts in the trunk on the right side if you are standing in front of the bike looking in. it measures 2.5in up from the seem and 1.5in from the side. the plug on the back for the wires are just standard spade clips. if you take the trunk off and look in side the frame arms the wirers are already there for the stock outlet so you can see what the clips look like.hope this helps

You can actually get to the connector (two spade clip style, inside a rubber boot) by removing the foglight panel and meddle panel on the left side of the bike. They are tie wrapped to the frame members just behind where the above picture shows the installed plug. I undid my tie wrap and re ran the wires up to near the fuse box and am running my GPS off it.

Is the 12 volt plug from BRP just a simple plug-in in the trunk area.. Do you have to remove panels of wire anything or just plug it in and good to go... Is it hot once installed fulltime or only when bike is running??

Thanks in advance for your answers...

Its a simple plug with two male spade connecters on the back and a threaded body. Its actually quite inexpensive, unless you pay for labor to install. The "standard" position of the plug requires trunk removal for installation. If you go with an aftermarket one, be sure you dont have issues with its length and it being too close or interfereing "behind" it.

If you use the stock power lines that are tied off from the factory, it is only hot with the key on, and for about 30 seconds after you turn off the engine / key. The one trick to "power up" the plug is to insert a 3 amp fuse in the available slot for keyed accessories.

I think if you put the fuse into the "unswitched accessories slot, it will be powered all the time. Mine is switched right now, but that is what I read on one of the other forums. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen if you put fuses in both slots if that is true. Same power source, though, so maybe it will just remain unswitched. 3 amp fuse, BTW, I don't know if the wire is big enough to handle more.

Great I'll take a look, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't some fancy connector. Glad to hear it's just a spade connection.

That was my assumption as well, but when I tried it (unswitched acc position) the ole meter didnt show any volts at the plug.

Thanks for the info Little John. I hadn't tried it, and was too lazy to do it purposely. That would mean there is another tap or wire somewhere that is unswitched. I suppose I should buy a service manual so I will have a wiring diagram. Then I wouldn't have to guess.
