• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

My RS has a 12 volt outlet installed in the trunk but I'm wanting to add one in the dash as well. Do I need a new fuse block and if so what's the best one? Have GPS plugged into the trunk and want to plug my iPhone into the dash. Thanks!

i moved mine up front

i dont know that you need an extra fuse block but having one is always a good thing

mine is setup to simply plug into the trickle port from the battery

I use a double usb plug in the outlet in the frunk. This works well but if you add another outlet I would have it on a seprate fuse...:dontknow:
 
I would think about adding a fuse block. The Switched ACC circuit on the RS only provides 3 amps. Two electronic devices probably won't tax that, but if you decided to plug something else into the dash, like heated gear, you would have serious problems. Another alternative would be to use the Unswitched ACC circuit, which is also only 3 amps. The harness for this is tied behind the trunk, near the steering/trunk latch. The advantage to having this one on your dash is that it is hot all the time. That lets it be used to charge the battery. The disadvantage is that it stays hot even when parked, so any device plugged in has to be turned off or removed...which should be no problem with your iPhone. Waterproofing is a worry for either. Consider using the Powerlet (BMW-style) outlets. They are sturdier, make better contact, and are quite water resistant when closed. The odd size makes it necessary to use a Powerlet adapter for many accessories, however. They do make an extensive line of adapters.
 
I like your idea Scotty. Would I need to remove the trunk to find this harness? If i decide to go the inline fuse route where is it wired to? Straight to the battery?

It would be easiest to remove the trunk. If you attach the harness, it would be best to go to the battery. Do not use the jumper terminals under the seat...at least not the negative one, unless you want a much bigger job to tighten it again.
 
I had th frunk off my '08 GS last week & easily found the switched & unswitched wiring .

The switched one, taped to the right of centre in a triangular hole when standing in front, had a rubber shroud over it to pull over & protect the connections to the outlet I installed (Powerlet BMW type).

The unswitched one was dead centre clipped onto the frame between 2 other connectors. There was no rubber shroud on these wires, just a white cover piece to protect them if not used.

I couldn't find a 3A fuse so used a 4A one.
