• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

12 Volt Battery - System Overload message... Any ideas on how to fix/clear this?

A cheap and 'easy to use' multimeter is your very good friend, and patiently waiting for those of you who do not own one at your local automotive store or favorite online website.

Truism, a decent, not meaning expensive Volt/Ohm meter, is invaluable as a shop tool. My inexpensive decades old Harbor Freight digital meter has hours and hours of use, and no serious concerns when it gets bumped.

Folks need to realize also, that there is a certain degree of understanding the meter setup, and what the displayed values mean.

Exactly! And a few minutes of self-education can save you hours of grief. Not to mention frustrating and expensive trips to the repair shop! Many electrical problems can be resolved in short order with this tool.

Which leaves me with the Haiju that has worked fine for 2400 miles so far, but is a failure coming on it? .....

My Haiju battery had lost a good 40% cranking amp power after 500 miles. I installed the NOCO right out of their box and had no problems.

Your alternator drive coupling will advise you.

With engine idling, not rolling, apply effort turning the front wheels. If even tne slightest hint of a whine is heard, the drive coupling is slipping.
In simple terms, the alternator is loaded down by electrical system demands, the steering system being very hungry itself is a large electrical burden. That electrical load attempts to to bog down the alternator, which can result in coupling slippage.
Depending upon how correctly the coupling break free torque was set when new, and the lubricity of the oil, slippage may occur.

In some situations, the slippage, either oil related or improper initial assembly of coupling prevented charging the battery.

As a very young kid, say 10 years old or less, my dad was an old school electronics guy, had his own radio repair shops in the 60s and 70s. Ultimately, he went on to be a bench tech for years and then manager of Radio Shacks electronic items repair facility for the Eastern USA.

While I am certainly no electronics genius, capable of keeping smoke inside or repairing electronic boxes, learning from a great teacher, I got a good education about how to use a multimeter, troubleshoot and more, as a young kid.

Yes, I was very fortunate, and have made efforts teaching the grandkids the same.

So then, yes Ron, I agree fully, used correctly and understanding the info the meter presents, can be huge, as a troubleshooting tool and more.
