110 mile cold air intake review

I can't tell you how happy I am performance wise with this mod. This is by far the most noticeable performance mod I've done to date.

I rode out to Hot Springs NC on some roads that I know very well. I had the trailer hooked up and it was about 92 when I started out and dropped down to about 80 by time I got back.

The first thing I noticed was it pulled like the trailer wasn't hooked up. I feel a good increase in torque from this mod. My Spyder has never ran smoother than it does now. There is no stumble or gurgling at low rpm's now and it pulls hard from the bottom up.

The next thing I noticed was I was taking a lot of the turns and straightaways in one gear higher than I would normally while towing a trailer. Like I said it pulls as if there is no trailer on back.

The next test I want to do is do a roll-on with one of the local Spyder guys here and see if it pulls them as hard as I think it's going to pull. This would be without the trailer to make it even.

I have a guy that can make me up some glass vents for the folks that don't want the look I have. I may change to those myself but what I really wanted to do with all this is to test and prove that cool air is where the power is at and I have proven that to myself tonight. :doorag:

:yes::2excited:

Alright I'm sold, where do I buy the cold air tubing you mentioned in your post with pics? I'm thinking I'll run mine to the fog light holes, I'm not interested in adding the fogs so I want to see how that goes.

Interesting that such a relatively simple change could have such a noticeable effect.

One question- It was hard to tell from the other thread if both vents are hooked to the airbox or just the throttle side?

And I'm kinda thinking the boating world probably has a plethora of vents of all shapes and sizes that would work for this.

Not sure if you can get a 3" duct to fit but you can try. I got mine at Autozone.

Thanks for the link, I missed that thread. Good idea, I've been looking at that also, cooler air is more dense, makes better power. I run an open element on my HD for the same reason.
It looks like your plumbing leaves the stock intake horns in place? That was my concern, they seem to be the the meter for airflow to maintain something close to factory AFR settings. Those twin throttle bodies look like they'll allow much more airflow than the aircleaner inlet, I wouldn't want to run this thing in a dangerously lean condition, without the ability to remap the ecm

I was running Ken's free flowing air filter with and without the tubes in. My last setup was with the tubes out and and did run good but this runs so much better even with the tubes in. I did cut them down quite a bit.

It would be nice if they (air intake) would resemble an air scoop. I suppose that it would not take away the spyder non-mod look. I would be interested in those.. Please advise when available.. Thanks

Did the Mod improve fuel consumption as well? That is more/less MPG.

You are a very talented person, wish you lived in my block..

Have a great day.

Rode another 250 or so today and I am so happy I can't stand it. :D Well I was till I got that speeding ticket today but that's another story. :banghead:

Fuel was pretty much the same, right at 30 mpg towing the trailer. The response from the public on the Hyperchargers was great. I knew I had a winner when I stayed back and listened to all the comments. :doorag:

Like I said before my Spyder has never ran this good, it's not a maybe it's a little better deal, it's a OMG this thing runs like a scalded dog.:2excited::spyder:

When will MM begin taking orders for a "ready to install" kit?

You would have to talk to him about that. I did this for me and if a kit comes out of it that's fine but a guy could put his own cold air intake together with off the shelf parts if they wanted to. The good news is we now know it works. :doorag:

Well Lamont inspired me so I tired it our this evening. I've gotta say he ain't joking when he says there is a noticeable difference in power. I did my setup a little different and will go back and tweek it a little but here's what I did.

I couldn't find just the intake tubing without the airfilter setup and didn't want to spend $50 on something I wasn't sure about. So I went to Lowes and bought a 3" aluminum flex duct. It fits directly over the little scoop where the fog laps would go and then I simply cut it down to size and slid it over the snorkels. I didn't cut the snorkel yet because I wanted to make sure I liked what it did for the power. Like Lamont says that thing will run. Of note I'm running the stock airfilter and stock exhaust and it's really making more power.

I was wondering what it would do for a stock bike. That's good news.

Bummer dude :opps:
I wonder how many other SpyderLovers have gotten a speeding ticket. :dontknow::sour::popcorn:

I'll run it a few hundred miles this week and then go back and cut the snorkel down. Although I think I may not have to with the way I run the duct.

At any rate when I finally get a chance to meet up with you, Lamont, I'm buying the first round.:2thumbs: You're the man.

Wow, this sounds so simple. Simple is something I should be able to do. What parts/panels did you have to remove? I am not familiar with the snorkel. Why would you have to cut it? Are there two snorkels, one that would attach to each flex duct from each fog lamp?

Can we get pictures of your or Lamonts.
Sounds like a cool mod, (no pun intended)

Please post some pics, I think I'd like to do this mod.
