10 minute oil removal with new panel for the RT

I haven't been paying too attention to this matter but I seem to recall a couple of posts stating that for some reason the new oil change/filters/etc hasn't been approved for CA as yet.

No clue as to why.

Got the new filter and housing. Just no letter for a free or low cost panel set? :dontknow:

I had to pay for my panel since I do my own oil changes. According to BRP this at the perogative of the dealership as charge or not since they get the panel for no charge with the ticket I could have supplied. Shame, I like my dealer but this type of thing costs them more than they know. The panel costs a little over $30 with the 10% discount I get for buying the bike there.

Well, I guess I am one of the few. I take over 3 hours to do the oil change. I kinda talk to the Spyder, look for things that seem unusual, let the oil drain thoroughly, etc. When the new oil is all in the Spyder, I Simple Green the engine and hose off. The engine looks almost as clean as when it was new. Taking time to observe gives me the time to notice if some things may be a little unusual from the last oil change.
And, I do not want the new panel!

I asked my dealer about any information they may have on the drilled hole and they had no idea what I was talking about. However, thay agree that it would be a good solution and solve the problem.

For those of us that don't have easy access to our dealer, what does it say? Is it something that BRP is going to pay the dealers to do ? It seems like something they should be addressing and it should be on their nickel.

We're talking about drilling a hole, it's a TST (Technical Service Tip). It's one on those things you can do if like or not. All I'm saying is you can drill the hole and BRP won't have a problem with.

Great, thanks for the quick reply. My concern was that BRP would put some kind of constraint in this action that would allow them to duck some responsibility down the road. In my short time dealing with them, this is my take on the type of company they are. I love the bike but, BRP is not my trusted friend as yet. Fortunately for me, I have a good dealer that has helped me where BRP has failed.

Got my bike back tonight from the dealer, with the new panel installed. Looks good, and I'm looking forward to doing my own maint in the future. This should certainly help.

I just did an oil change with the new setup and it took 10 minutes to pull the panel and drain all the oil and remove both filters. This is WAY faster than the old way. Thumbs up to BRP for this mod. :thumbup:

A+ for BRP. A buddy of mine comes to my garage to change oil on his RT and he likes the new way. He now can change his oil in half the time.

You need to check and make sure your dealer turned in your purchase info to BRP. I've heard that some are not in the BRP system...Go figure:banghead:

I dont understand why but if you live in California you won't be getting one.

We did not get a letter because per CA. law BRP could not include us in the new maintenance schedule. But, that does not mean you can not get the new panel. Check with your dealer and see how he is handling it. Probably pay to play since we don't have a letter to give him for reimbursement.
