After parking the Spyder Monday night, I shut off the Zumo 450. I didn't ride again until Thursday morning. The Zumo would not come on. At lunch, I pulled the panels on the left side to check my battery connections. I thought that perhaps, my solder work failed. Nope. All was good there.
Later in the afternoon, I found where another owner had the same issue. In the online (or CD) owner's manual, the suggest holding the power button and pressing the '+' button. It worked for him. It didn't work for me.
So, I disconnected the battery connections. I have the Garmin wired directly to the battery: + and -. Still nothing. I then snipped all my zip ties, and pulled the wiring to verify it wasn't worn through; especially where the wiring goes down near the steering column. All looked good.
So; I called Garmin Customer Service. I was walked through several steps, including removing the lithium battery, and connecting it to my PC via the USB cable. No luck. She indicated that having the Garmin connected directly to the battery might overcharge the lithium battery. But, after talking to one of her associates, she told me that since I was still fused, that shouldn't happen.
I have had the Zumo 450 connected for just over a week. So; they are sending me a new unit. Apparently, if it's under a month old, they just replace the unit. Over a month, a repair is in order. I get to keep the RAM mount. And, she thought they would just sent a complete new package w/o removing that before shipping. Of course, they will ship upon receipt of my Zumo. Nice folks there at Garmin.
