• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Wow thats awesome :congrats:. I've had my SE5 for 2 months and I've put 1200 miles on. I have along way to go and look forward to every minute.

That was a superb thread, glad you are enjoying the ride. I thought Lamonster was high mileage rider and you beat him to it, though I am glad for his dedication to this website.

Now imagine a rider with a turban ( a Sikh ) on his double sided exhaust Spyder ridin thru Manhattan with 3 other :spyder2: riders.. The look on some peoples face and the high five from people who know who a Sikh is. Clue: He is not a Muslim.

Have fun.

Well Done, Nick!

:congrats: on the big mileage! By the way, I love NYC. My wife and I visited about a year and a half ago, did a lot of the tourist stuff, and had a great time. We found everyone we encountered there to be totally welcoming and friendly. (Of course we avoided midnight strolls through Central Park.) :D

Best regards,

Bruce

You forgot sickest ride Salem nh Chinese food then home

O' man, that certainly goes down in the books. Just a little warning to all of you, when you visit tatt2r to get some ink, do not eat at the restaurant downstairs... Well, that's not really fair to them. Just stay away from the special spicy dish that the traveling chef creates and just happens to be there that day.

how many things have you changed or ? (clutch, tires, brakes, etc.)

1 oil pressure sensor
stock battery replaced with an Odessy (Lamont's recommendation)
3 or 4 headlight/fan relays (I carry two spares)
3 rear tires
2 pairs of front tires
2 full sets of brake pads
1 coolant reservoir bottle (started leaking at a seam)
oil change every 4k- 5k miles
issues with the assisted stearing around 6k miles. I had no time to visit the dealer so I just pulled the front and rear fuse. No assisted stearing since then and I don't miss it.

Ride safe, ride long. You will probably be the first 100K miler and that's awesome!

I would be lying if I ignored this, cause it has definitely crossed my mind. I have a unique opportunity to make a run at this goal. My daily commute is around 147 miles round trip and I don't own a car. The Spyder is my *car. The only variable working against me will be the 2009 BMW F 800 GS that came home last week. The 2008 Buell that I traded in had 15k miles.

You just smashed my mileage :firstplace:

 that whole time that you're Spyder was in pieces getting painted; I sat around rubbing my hands together knowing that it would give me a little boost!

In all those miles, how many valve checks and what were your results?
The valves have been checked twice. First time @ 22k and again at 38k. Both times they did not need any adjustments.

I think i saw you on park ave / 53rd st the other day
I work on 39th but on Tuesday evenings I visit some friends up in that area, so it could have been me.

HUMMMMM

I was in the ambulance New york presbyterian park on the corner by the church.

hey let me know when ya want go out for a run.

we are doing the 911 ride in august

going to memphis in may for the bbq fest...will trailer her down

1000 miles a week?

I thought I was riding alot with 3000 miles since Nov considering the North East weather. You are Road Warrior Nick :2thumbs:

We have to hook up sometime in CT.

That is what I have been waiting and wanting to hear. It has always been my belief that if the proper shims are installed in the production line, the valve "check" at 6000 miles is a total waste of your time and money. Even 12K miles is questionable. With the use you have given your Spyder I find that to enforce my belief even more. With my changing to Royal Purple Max Cycle Synthetic 10W40, my first valve check will be 30K, and I will take it to someone I trust that will not tell me I need an adjustment just because of the mileage.
Again, thank you for all your valuable input. Happy Trails and Ryde Safe.

A belated congratulations, Nick. I bow to your accomplishments. As a cold weather, "any time-anywhere" rider, I know just how much dedication this takes...and what a good machine it takes to get you there. Well done, keep it up!

Nick:

U De Man..

Watch out for that pothole on 34th and 8th.
Hit it in my cage yesterday.. can t imagine my spydee hitting it ...

My odometer flipped over 40k (s)miles today!!

If all goes well, I will hit 50k by the time I hit my 1 year anniversary with the Spyder. (June 21)

Big thanks to all who participate on this board. There is a tremendous amount of knowledge to be shared here. With the exception of a few minor "bumps" in the road, the Spyder has gracefully pushed through and the reliability is just awe inspiring. I often feel like all I have to do, is just fill up the gas tank and go.

Considering this is the first model year and all the technology involved, its just awesome to see it all continue working with out failure. Few things warm my heart more than watching the eyes of children widen as they see me. Then the jaw drops and a hand comes up to either wave or point. In Manhattan you wont travel more than a block with out feeling like a celebrity. The Spyder has such a unique ability to bring smiles to peoples faces and sometimes its just enough to bring a little cheer in to life...
I kid you not, even the hardcore NYPD will wave and smile.

Here are a few quick facts that I have put together;

Coldest ride = 83 miles @ -6 degrees, plus windchill at highway speed.
Burrr!!! Even with full heated clothing and the BRP helmet, it was rough.

Hottest ride = 13 miles @ 102 degrees (NYC degrees)
bumper to bumper traffic for 45 minutes on the Westside HIghway. The asphalt was so hot that the tires were sticking to it.
When it broke free I was so dehydrated that I had to sit at a Starbucks for over an hour drinking water.

longest ride = 1,239 in 23hours, in January with temps of 6 - 20 degrees.

Deepest ride in water = about 75+ yards, with water past my ankles.
Deegan Expressway, NYC. Raging Summer rain that caused road flooding and I just pushed through!! At times the muffler was gurgling water.

Average miles per week = 1k

Average smiles per week = countless....

Ha!

When daughter and I saw tatt2r a week ago, he shared your story with us. So, we only had a cup of tea upstairs...

(Thanks! Sorry, but thanks!) nojoke
