• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    RT rescued from graveyard

megagame - any update. Have been following and enjoy what you are doing. May need to do some upgrades to my Spyder down the road, but my '85 Gold Wing Limited Edition FI model ECU replacement project (turned into a CFI system upgrade) has kept me busy. Don't know if I mentioned, but I am...

Front suspension upgrade - Hr springs from Martin live up to the hype!

Have to say that the OEM shocks are not crap, just a price point that is beneficial to the OEM and owner. The shocks on the Spyder are a compromise in performance, ride quality. Cars are the same, we just don't pay much attention to cars the same way. Car shocks are good for some 100K Kms...

What Oil Frequency and Oil Type do you use?

It has been mentioned that any good oil that is for a wet clutch application and correct weight is good. Budget and personal preference play into this. If you look at various brands in stores, only buy oils that have no friction modifiers. The API donut for an oil that has no friction...

Is airbag needed with aftermarket shock? How to fill airbag and leave set?

My thoughts are yes, air bag required. Have the M2 shocks installed all round. Set the rear shock preload for solo riding. The shock should be set up from the shop for best rebound - may need some tweaking. Use air bag to set ride height for two up, similar to the Gold Wings, especially the...

How to tell if my spyder is running lean or rich?

Agree with Peter Aawen, and others that changing the exhaust system changes the engine operating dynamics. The OEM has programmed the ECU to use engine parameters and ancillary component influences (exhaust system being one of these) to meet emission standards and to deliver the correct amount...

    Which motorcycle lift?

Use the Big Blue Lift for Spyder and Gold Wing. Gets the bike some 25 inches off the ground. Also use a CAT 4500 lb scissor lift. Went with this because the ATV scissor jacks don't like to lift my AWD Hyundai.

If you bottom out your 20-22 Can Am watch this video

This is a forum member who changed out the OEM rear shock spring for a 600 lb/in shock spring. Good reading. https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?126595-RT-Limited-OEM-Rear-Shock-Making-it-Adjustable&highlight=suspension+upgrade

    RT rescued from graveyard

Agree wholeheartedly. These gents and the other contributors have gone over an beyond what us mere mortals would do. I also hate throwing things away. My 1985 Honda Gold Wing FI model ECU replacement project pales in comparison. Do like the Arduino family though. Have liked following and...

    Review: Review of M2 Shocks

It's personal preference for sure. The intangible considerations play a significant part in what you do to your ride, and how you ride. Where you live and ride, your personalities, why are we riding, and much more influence us. My partner likes to ride with me, and tells me often not to...

    Review: Review of M2 Shocks

I have the one piece sway bar. It was installed back in 2014 when the previous owner bought the Spyder. If you are upgrading the front shocks, three piece or one piece sway bar may not be an issue. I'd discuss this with Baja Ron. Sway bar is good, but only works on corners and the likes...

    Review: Review of M2 Shocks

I have looked into the aftermarket spring issue, have a thread regarding this. These are basic platforms, not too much performance design, but this does not substantiate not having suspension options. The reason I upgraded was the lean/roll of the Spyder, the rider should not have to work...

    Anyone verified Aftermarket Performance Gains?

Interesting thread. Will be following. Not touching my Spyder, need a ride that I insert key, turn to on, start, put in "D" for ditch and go. I am doing an ECU replacement/upgrade project on my '85 Gold Wing fuel injected model. Using the Speeduino project for the upgrade. Lots of new...

I had a run in with BRP’s infamous Loctite x2

BRP uses good locktite, and it is a PITA; however, I have found that when you remove a bolt it heats up because of the locktite used. If you stop part way through the bolt removal after the bolt has heated up, then try to continue, you are more apt to break the bolt. I found that once you get...

Trailer Choices - what options & pros/cons? Recommendations?

Live in Victoria, use a N-Line trailer that I used with my ex-1500. https://www.n-line.com. Purchased mine from a company in Edmonton. Works well, tucks in and always in line - no pun intended. Single wheel unit. Loading is not an issue. Went across Canada to NFLD and back last year with...

Ryker Battery Life - any 2019/20 Ryker owners replaced theirs yet?

Don't know if the Ryker is as power hungry as the Spyder, but if so, batteries can be an issue. If you are concerned about longevity, get a small battery tester such as this: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07KP8GCWG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Works well. Does load...

V twin taking ages to fire up - any thoughts on this?

Fuel. Wide open throttle is generally for a FLOOD CLEAR scenario. A fuel pressure test will provide an indication of what is wrong.

We Owe the BRP Engineers a Lot!

Engineering at its best. Changing the air filter on an 1800 Goldwing, better part of 4/5 hours or more - not rushing (BTDT). Air filter cost approximately $20.00 or so. Clutch bleed/flush on an 1800, better part of three hours, well buried behind front lower cowlings (BTDT). Have heard that...

Try BajaRon's stabilizer before getting new Shocks? Or What?

Have a 2014 RTL. Stock suspension with the original Baja Ron sway bar when bought. Rear suspension not really an issue unless you find your Spyder bottoming out, then upgrade to a 550/600 lb-in rear spring. There is a thread on this forum regarding this upgrade. As for the front, it's a...

What oil are you using for your 1330 engine?? Tips & hints on oil change?

Bought our 2014 Spyder RTL some 2 years ago. Looked into the oil requirement. No mention of JASO in the owner's manual or the service manuals. JASO is a good indicator of oil that has no additives and is good for wet clutches and catalytic converters - depending on rating, came out in 1999...

Any idea on how to proceed with this Electrical Problem?

The Spyder is a power hungry machine. If the battery is weak in any way, cell starting to go and such, issues happen. Have the battery load tested and the internal health determined. I use this battery tester, quite good for the price...
