• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Laser Schmaser ?

They look like that, yes. Col does alignments in the north-side Brisbane area, and I sometimes ride down to give him a hand if possible – I live about an hour away. Unlike the Ryker, yes. Custom bars make strapping them dead straight during alignment hard, as do items like backrests, but...

    Laser Schmaser ?

Yes, although in my case the lasers did not have that up-down adjustment. Ccol on this forum does alignments in the area fairly near the village where I live, and he uses Bosch lasers, which do have that adjustment. I had to adjust mine the long way, using epoxy resin on the base of one laser...

    Laser Schmaser ?

    • the beam shining to the left or right: I use lasers with magnets on the bottom so they get used on the standoffs (which have a flat steel plate like a pie-dish, parallel to the brake discs), and are lying on their sides, so laser up-down inaccuracy becomes side-to-side inaccuracy...

    Laser Schmaser ?

No, not quite. The main issue is to avoid that camber error, so the laser should NEVER point anywhere except exactly parallel to the floor. When you point it down, it points outward; when you point it up, it points inward. Only a small amount but enough to make a difference because the error...

    Laser Schmaser ?

Yes, it is. I have seen Spyders with NO camber on one side and DOUBLE camber on the other, so welding the frame (with its FIXED camber) must be fairly inaccurate, plus the five-times magnification effect solves most of the other problems. Even if the front wheel width measurement is out by the...

    Laser Schmaser ?

OK, I’m ‘the aussie guy’ and the reason why I specify aiming the lasers on the ‘pie-plates’ (standoffs) to the rear while measuring the width at the front wheels is that the Spyder has a small amount of negative camber. It’s only 3mm (about 1/8”) on average, and that average is important – in...

    Front Wheel Alignment

Well... no, not really. My website pages, plus that little rant about Mr Newton's rotten apple, distills the essential factors down to about the minimum. It really ain't rocket science, but there are so many variations in Spyder models, rider and/or passenger sizes, suspension differences and...

    Front Wheel Alignment

There is always one ‘downhill’ wheel – for you in N.America it’s the right wheel, for me in Australia it’s the left. That wheel carries a bit more of the steering load than the ‘uphill’ wheel because of Mr Newton’s apple. It’s not a constant thing, it jiggles from wheel to wheel because of...

    Front Wheel Alignment

Ummm... some mathematical conflicts for me, there. Metrics is much easier. When I align an RT, I set the toe-in to about 8 or 10mm at the targets for an average-weight rider – that's about 5/16" to about, yes, about 7/16" if you can figure that out! The targets, of course, are at 5 times the...

    Front Wheel Alignment

Just a quick note about BRP recommending the Rolo alignment system, and therefore owners not trusting any other alignment system: given their track record for ignoring owners’ concerns about wheel alignment, would you trust BRP’s recommendation? The Rolo system uses a hub insert to get a true...

2010 RT spyder tacho not lighting up

I'm afraid that this is a known problem, and I have it, too. A bit of a bummer. I posted a description on a private forum I maintain, at: http://www.gospyder.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=54

    Rotating front tires

OK, point taken, but there are many owners who believe that simply rotating the wheels will do the job – it won't. But why worry about rotating when the wear is already well advanced? The fronts wear so s-l-o-w-l-y that you have lots more life left in them.

    Rotating front tires

If the Spyder has the original Kenda tyres on it you can NOT rotate them – the Kendas have directional tread. Most owners replace their rear tyres about 4 or 5 times before they need to replace the fronts, unless poor wheel alignment has reared its ugly head and caused uneven wear.

    Interesting Toe-In Article

Hi all from the Land Down Under. Don't know where the PDF version of that web-page came from but it's grossly out of date... (well, I DO know, actually, and it's my fault entirely). The actual web-page on which the PDF was based (YEARS ago!) is http://www.gospyder.net/spyderwheels.html and...
