• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Daily Commuter

Daily commuter here. A brutal 4 miles to work ;) and with the new 2014 taking back roads, it just gets to operating temperature. On the way home, it is get on the highway, go down three stops and home in 7 minutes. Downside on the 2014 is the frunk is significantly smaller than the 2008. I can...

    Test ride

Now I'm very partial to Yellow. My favorite color. But at the dealer today, picking up my back rest, I saw a red RT and I must say, it was quite striking. Owned too many red vehicles in my day, but it was very nice.

    iPod discussion

Getting the right cable for iPhone 5S on a 2014 RT-S I've had my 2014 RT-S for only a couple of weeks and just went by the dealer to get my back rest and asked if they had the cable to connect my Spyder to the iPhone 5s but they didn't have it and the one that came with the bike is for the old...

    Hitch Mounted Platform

That is a very cool solution. Does it have additional heat shielding from the exhaust pipe? The other solution mentioned that heat from the exhaust can cook stuff quite a way back from it. Also, what would that solution cost? How much weight can you get in it? Off to the Googles to look it up...

    2014 RT-S Seat Getting Hot?

Only had the RT-S a week now and only 200 miles in mostly 70-80 degree weather. No noticeable heat problems yet. Also, the 2014 with two radiators seems to dissipate engine heat much better than my old 2008. Extra volume of coolant and more exposure no doubt.

    Smells funny breaking in

I did smell a little burnt rubber around the belt but that wasn't everything I'm smelling. I'll keep an eye (and a nose) out for it as it continues to break in. Thanks to all

    Smells funny breaking in

Got to take the new 2014 RT-S for a ride this morning in the Texas Hill Country. Sorry northern guys but it was sunny and 73 degrees. Perfect. Got a good 100 mile loop in going the back way up to Medina Lake Dam over to Park Road 37 and back home. One thing I've noted as it is breaking in is...

    2014 belt tensioner

Don't know. I only got to ride 39 miles or so home from the dealer last night on TX 46 through deer infested country at sunset so I was busy fiddling with buttons and watching out for deer. Got it up to 75 or so at times but will do some systematic testing this weekend as the weather is supposed...

    2014 belt tensioner

Do the 2014s need the after market belt tensioner? Armed with lots of info from this elite forum, I spoke to my dealer's lead tech last night when picking up my Spyder and I specifically asked if the 2014s needed an after market belt tensioner and he said no. He said he had a special tool to...

Bought it and brought it home - 2014 RT-S

Picked up my 2014 RT-S in yellow (of course) last night and only got 39 miles to ride it home but absolutely love it. I know, I know, post a pic. Will get to it but I'm at work. There is absolutely no comparing my old 2008 Spyder to this one. Smoother, more stable, more confidence inspiring...

    SE6 or SM6?

Made the final decision Thanks for all the input and help on this subject. My dealer has only been getting the 2014s withe SE6 so that is what I test rode and that is what I bought. I figured that I've had manual transmissions all my life so there wouldn't be a noticeably different than...

    SE6 or SM6?

Does the resale value stay high because of the transmission or simply the initial higher cost or is it a combination of the tranny and the floorboards?

    SE6 or SM6?

Went and visited Yamaha Fun Center in Boerne, TX this last week to see the RT-S in person and will be scheduling test rides and pulling the trigger this weekend. The question is...which transmission? SE6 or SM6? I had the SM5 on my old 2008 Spyder and liked it just fine, but for a $1,500...

Back to Spyder and Looking for Dealer Recommendations in San Antonio

Great input! This is all very good input and I do appreciate it. You get a feel for how people were treated and that is probably a great indicator of future service. Funny, no one from the San Antonio area even mentioned Woods in New Braunfels but several good bits of feedback about Coyote...

Back to Spyder and Looking for Dealer Recommendations in San Antonio

Is initial setup the primary concern? Thanks to all for the replies and advice. It is very much appreciated. Upthread Murphy Brown mentioned that experience in setting up the machine properly is an important function of a dealership and I personally thought that my original dealer Joe Harrison...

Back to Spyder and Looking for Dealer Recommendations in San Antonio

Why Pitbull? Guys I've seen a lot of references to Pitbull and was hoping for a bit more detail as to why it would be a good idea to go to Missouri to purchase there? Do they have some special volume that allows discounts? Better initial setup? crw8781. Thanks for the feedback on Kent. When...

Back to Spyder and Looking for Dealer Recommendations in San Antonio

Back in 2008, I saw a Spyder on the highway and immediately knew I had to get one. Two months later, I'm at Joe Harrison Honda and bought a 2008 SM5 in bright yellow. Immediately started converting it into a sort of touring bike with the handlebar risers, mirror extensions, Cal-Sci windshield...

    Original Batterys on 08's ?

Bought my 08 in July of that year. Original battery still going strong. I have the 12V outlet put in for the nav system which I hardly ever use. Ride it to work 4 miles one way most days (Texas is usually sunny and warm, except for the last two weeks). Garage kept in an uncooled (Texas...

Spyder running hot with Hindle and Evoluzione O2 modifier

Wow! Great information and a great link by Lamonster. I forgot to mention in my original post that I was two software updates behind (thank you Yamaha of San Antonio) so that would explain why suddenly the heat indicators were reading higher than normal. I have over 3 years experience with this...
