• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Lack of Spyders

I drove my truck to Prudhoe Bay, AK to St. Louis, MO and back to ME (12305 miles) in August and saw only two outside of Maine.

    Spyder Sightings

This is odd I know - in August I drove my pickup from Maine, I-90 to Minneapolis, then thru the provinces to Fairbanks and then to Anchorage. Just outside Anchorage I saw my first Spyder. Then I drove back down to Montana, Wyoming and on to St. Louis, MO. Just outside St. Louis I saw my second...

Anyone know anything about this jacket?

I snowmobile in the winter. My gear, Klim, works at -40 degrees and thru blizzards. When I ride in cool weather on my Spyder/motorcycle I use some or part of my Klim gear. Works fine but isn't as stylish as leathers, etc. ;)

    CRASH!!!!!!

I had a tour in the desert and all I know is it is hotter than hell, there are all kinds of nasty bugs and critters and people shoot at you. Oh, yeah, the sand and dust gets in the crack of your ass no matter how hard you try to keep it out. Didn't see any motorcycles though.

    Amsoil Test Results

I have a friend with a Dodge 2500 with a Cummins diesel. He has about 250,000 on it now. Since it was new he has used Amsoil and had it tested. He routinely gets 25,0000 miles between changes! He also uses a high performance filter. I use Amsoil in all my gasoline driven equipment except the...

    Cold/Rough weather riding tips.

I guess you have to define "cold weather". There's a guy around here that drives his Triumph in the worst blizzards (3' +) and way below zero. All my machines are in a heated garage when he does that but I bet his rules for driving would vary from those who live in the South. Just an...

    Aftermarket Seat

I put on an Ultimate seat. It's a lot of work but not difficult. Make sure you block the holes in the plastic pan before you start the job. If you drop a bolt down there you're in for a lot of work!:sour:

    Anyone From The Augusta Area?

Saw a beautiful white limited in Searsport today. The riders were carefully cleaning it.

2013 Spyders to get bigger engines, more horsepower

Just dropped my machine off at the dealers. The service manager says he is certain there will be an electric model. He didn't know what else there would be in the line up.

how much wind, is too much wind

One thing about 18 wheelers whether you're driving a car, motorcycle or a unicycle. When you get ready to pass don't delay - put the hammer down and get by them as quickly as you can. In motorcycles, the less time you spend being buffeted by them the better. Better to go a few MPH faster to get...

Riding alone in remote areas - essentials?

I have done a number of remote runs both by pickup and motorcycle. In remote areas, some of the things you think you can't live without are a waste of effort. I just returned from a 12,305 mile pickup trip to the Arctic and Alaska driving thru the northern provinces. The only time I saw reliable...

    New Battery

When OEM batteries wear out I replace them with Odysseys. Current I have one in a snowmobile and one in an ATV. When I was in the Army we used these batteries everywhere in small engines. They're bullet proof.

Maine Spyder Rydes - Post your next Trip Here!

This has nothing to do with foliage but I will be driving a 1000 Iron Butt run in the next few weeks. I will stay in Maine doing this run but expect to "circle" the State. If you're interested let me know.

    Anyone From The Augusta Area?

Did you go thru China and Albion Saturday? I followed a blue one then. If we could get enough people in Maine together (especially Central Maine) we could form a club. I suspect North Country would sponsor us. Frank South China

    Anyone From The Augusta Area?

With North Country selling these things, there must be more than me around here. Saw a blue RT like mine today.

    Does anyone know?

I have a flexible device two feet long (used on aircraft engines) that has a remote grasping device on it. You squeeze the end and it grabs the bolt. Works good - I know, I lost my bolt and had to get it back. Stick a rag down the hole in the back and save yourself some grieve!

New York Times Article on Trikes.

I started riding in 1961 with Triumph Bonneville's. Since then I have ridden many dozens of bikes and owned well over a dozen myself. Some I owned were iconic - Norton Commando, '73 Kawasaki Z900, etc. Many were were cruisers, other crotch rockets. All in all each had it's strengths and...

    Ultimate Seat

I have a Temperpedic mattress that needed a break in and as I understand it the Ultimate is made of the same material. In any case, after a couple of hundred mile break in, it does a great job. Next month I am going to run an Iron Butt One Thousand and that will be real test! One caution -...

How much did the color affect your decision when purchasing your Spyder.

I went with the best deal - as long as it wasn't chartreuse! I do like the brown one though.

    warm up time

I let mine warm up about 60 seconds. I'm a professional pilot and have seen studies that indicate that the major cause of premature aircraft engine failure is low oil pressure on initial start up and warm up. Motorcycle engines tend to be high performance and similar to aircraft engines and are...
