• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Scheduling 600 mile oil change

No, but I see what ya did there... :-). I'm pretty picky about my oils, the handle comes from a lot of experience with 2 strokes back in the day. Keeping them running without self destructing pretty much depended upon bean oils. And who can resist the smell of race fuel and Castor? Anyhoo, I...

    Scheduling 600 mile oil change

I did my own oil change and then took Veronica to my LD (Ted's Motorcycle World, Alton, IL) for the rest of the service. (https://www.facebook.com/TedsMotorcycleWorld?fref=ts) Top notch service, they did the list of checks, replaced the side panel with the updated one, and even washed her. She...

    Oil Change

I can't see that working on the Spyder. I don't think you have the room in that area. BUT, I could see it working with a remote filter mount and a couple of hardlines/flex hoses bent and routed properly. Hmmmm...

    No oil on dipstick

I'm waiting for one of the companies to offer a kit for a visual check where there is a t fitting installed on the oil line at the bottom of the tank, and a vertical clear tube that runs up the tank wall on the outside. But until that happens, I'll just keep checking it frequently.

Picked up my new oil change access panel and grill

I just did my first oil change on my 2012 RTS. It has the old style panel on it. First time, going slow and taking my time and notes, I was done in 3 hours, including drilling the hole in the plastic support for a long handled 5mm T to access the trans filter bolt. I could do it again in about...

    SE5 Shifting and Washing Question

Honda's brand of spray polish works really well. I assume the pump spray Turtle Wax would be good also. As far as shifting, the semi auto wont let you shift if you aren't moving fast enough, so you are covered there. I downshift as I approach any stop, and while riding if I feel the engine is...

    Question about coolant

Always distilled water with coolant. The BRP stuff is mixed with distilled, it's indicated on the label. There is a thread here somewhere with the links to msds for BRP products. The BRP offering is Shellzone, made obviously by Shell. It's a low silicate formula, which surprises me, because...

So Glad I Bought a Spyder!

That test is modified if you are on a Spyder. No need to worry, Illinois is very aware of the MC test and the Spyder.

    Marvel Mystry Oil

I run MMO every tank in everything I own. I especially like it in carbureted engines, but have found that fuel injectors benefit over the long term with much less wear on the pintle. 4 ounces for every 10 gallons. I carry a 8 ounce squirt bottle on the Spyder and add about 2 ounces every time I...

    Engine condition

(I'm only quoting the most important points.) Less leakdown also means less fuel past the rings to dilute the oil, which causes more wear, and puts the engine into a death spiral as far as wear. I'm still in break-in on mine, but the factory fill will be sent off for a used oil analysis when...

    dug out the Spyder yesterday.

Brave one you are.. I wouldn't let a battery run down if I could keep from it. And I assume you did not change oil before storage? If at all possible I'd be changing oil before winter storage, and removing the battery and taking it home to a warm place on a battery tender. Batteries that run...

Has anyone given their Spyder a "Name"???

The 2006 Honda ST1300 I traded in on the Spyder was Betty, so it only seemed right that I name my 12 RTS Veronica.

    How sweeeeeeet it is!!!

There is the generation gap again.. no matter, everyone from 8 to 80 loves riding a Spyder. Aerosmith sang "Back in the Saddle Again".

    Head gasket, DIY???

This.. I'd give those bolts a quick 1/4 turn, and see if that does it. And, crazy as it sounds, next oil change, add a quart of Redline. The esters will help swell the seal and may stop that drip.

    best oil?

I agree with the comment about the 2 different oil tribes mentioned previously. And while I've used a boat load of Rotella in the past in many different wet clutch, shared sump bikes, bottom line, any oil with a wide viscosity spread (like a 5w40) will shear down faster than a more narrow...
