• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Wheel/tire re-installation ... follow up questions

Thanks for the replies and good suggestions. I will try the ratchet strap idea on the right side of the axle, as suggested by Pegasus. Hopefully that holds it enough in the correct place while I crank down on the axle. So - just following up - is applying ~150 ft lbs to axle bolt head on the...

    Wheel/tire re-installation ... follow up questions

I removed the rear wheel from my '15 ST-S, had a new tire mounted, and re-installed everything over the weekend. Now that I am done, I have some questions I am hoping someone "in the know" can answer: 1. I cannot get a 36 mm socket / torque wrench on the axle nut - not enough space even when...

Test ride reflection: STS SM5 rider on an '18 RTL SE6

I figured I might hear from you, Peter, first ... it is 9:15pm on Saturday here, and you are already through a few cups of Sunday morning coffee at this point! If I had to make a decision today, I would try to find a 2013 RT with the twin and SM5 transmission. Subject to change - as always!

Test ride reflection: STS SM5 rider on an '18 RTL SE6

Some context: I bought my first Spyder used last spring, a 2015 ST-S with a twin/5 speed manual w/hand clutch. I had never ridden a Spyder before purchasing mine. I have ridden sleds for 20 years, and two-wheel motorcycles for 10 years. Today was the first time on a SE-equipped Spyder, first...

New (to me) ST Limited: Questions

Welcome aboard, and glad you found a case you like. With a little more research on the internets, you may be able to find a key cylinder and switch one of them out, then have it re-keyed so you do not need two keys. That might be more of a pain than just keeping the two keys, however! I have...

2018+ audio system - better sound than previous generation?

Thanks - are you referring to the sound quality, or the new BRP Connect system in 2018 that has been driving people crazy since?

Running ECO Mode - my MPG results.

You must have the four cylinder. I have the same year, but the 3.6. MPG is pretty good, considering its a six and has good power. I can get close to 450 out of a tank on a trip. Best mileage I can get is about 28; typically I get 25 (75 mile round trip commute on 55-mph state and county...

2018+ audio system - better sound than previous generation?

Just wondering if the 2018+ BRP audio system with four speakers in the fairing has better sound quality than the 2010-17 models with two front speakers only...?

    BRP Connect issues

2018 is the first year with BRPC, correct? That leaves 2017 as the newest model one can get without BRPC...and no Bluetooth. Looks like others have had good results using only Bluetooth to stream music, and not connecting at all to BRPC. Looks like the 2018+ have a better speaker setup also...

    Was I penny wise foolish?

Just my opinion, but if you know you don't like heated seats and don't need the trunk, sounds good to me. You can always add the many different accessories that BRP offers that fit on the back, and still save some $$$. Motomember (dealer in VA) offers RT packages, set up with pre-selected...

Tired of the sissy wave by other riders

Without hard data to prove anything, my observational, untallied data indicates the same number of people waving at me on my STS as on my GW. Harley riders, ape hangers, etc...no difference. My best guess? 95%. On a somewhat unrelated note, my Spyder is regularly the most popular vehicle at...

Recommendations - SM or SE? Triple or V-Twin?

Probably. Most of my riding is commuting to work (75 miles round trip), and ~100 mile rides on the Spyder. Just took it for an 80 mile spin between this post and my last one earlier today! To answer your question, yes, I have done 250+ mile rides on the twin and it is fine, though I am sure...

How do you dress for a ride?

I wear jeans/regular pants, modular helmet, gloves, hi-top riding sneakers, and my Helite Turtle airbag vest or TekVest that I wear while snowmobiling. On hot days, I will wear a long-sleeved, white athletic shirt that wicks away sweat. This is actually a way to stay cooler vs exposing more...

Recommendations - SM or SE? Triple or V-Twin?

Lou, BajaRon is right - you will get a lot of opinions. As for the SM5 vs SM6, I cannot speak to a comparison of the two. However, it would not surprise me if they are the exact same transmission +1 forward gear. Others may be able to confirm/deny that. By the way, all Spyders have reverse...

Dilemma that is not really a dilemma

You know, my 1100 had the best riding position of any bike I have owned. Sometimes you find that one machine that fits you like a glove, and for me, it was the 1100. I actually owned two of them. However, it is a mid-level cruiser with few amenities, no ABS, and pretty slow except in a very...

Dilemma that is not really a dilemma

Thanks for all of the feedback. I did not think about having her take the three-wheel course or do a demo ride to see if she even likes before making any big decision. Even if she does not want to ride, I still may want to get an RT for our two-up rides. I am just hesitant to sell my STS Sm5...

Dilemma that is not really a dilemma

Honestly, I am not sure either would. I have been encouraging her, and she is talking about it more often. Her friends are encouraging her too. However, there is decent bust potential here, as she has only ever driven a car, snowblower, and possibly a lawn tractor. This is why I don't want...

Dilemma that is not really a dilemma

So, I have a dilemma ... not a real one, but worth posting about on SL, with the valuable insight available here. I currently have a 2015 STS SM5 with the twin, and a 2016 Wing with ABS, integrated navigation/XM. Next year, I would like to shake up the lineup a bit. This is influenced by my...
