• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Battery Tender, winter months

Hooking up a float charger is better than no charging for several months, but....... Over the years I have had better results by giving each battery a full charge once per month instead of hooking up a float charger and walking away. I know, counter productive, but not all float chargers are...

Changes to OEM Rear Tire Construction

7" rim is what the book says, I am sure we can get a measurement on that. I find it encouraging that those who have used the narrower profile tires are reporting less center section wear. Maybe no silver bullet here, but if we keep pressures down, go with a better carcass tire that will hold...

Changes to OEM Rear Tire Construction

I am not aware of any specific cases of rear tires being covered under warranty simply due to their short life span. A softer compound would not constitute a defect. I did hear talk of a bad batch of tires, but assumed that to be some of the 15" front tires. I burned through the OE rear tire...

Changes to OEM Rear Tire Construction

More to Consdier.... The original post was providing information that BRP had changed their compound (and part number) of their OEM rear tire. Many on the forum want to use the OEM tire, thus such information should be of benefit to them. Especially since so many have been wearing out the...

Changes to OEM Rear Tire Construction

This is what it shows if you now enter any of the tire part numbers. Whatever a dealer orders, they are now going to get a 705 501 464 compound. OEM tires should now last longer, once again.

    BRP Sneak Peak - 2015

Before the images of the F3 were "leaked" the marketing department had a plan in place to do a "strip tease" and slowly show you more and more of the new F3 over time. Since the leaked images showed you the whole banana all at once, that kind of screwed up the strip tease approach. What to do...

Changes to OEM Rear Tire Construction

It looks like BRP has listened. We’ve just learned that BRP has went back to the rubber compound of what the rear tire had back in 2012. A production change took place in June, so all rear tires produced from that point forward have the longer lasting compound, and they actually went back to the...

    Kumho Ecsta rear tire pressure

The BRP suggested pressure is based on the tire construction and engineering targets for sidewall flex, ride quality, handling, etc. So when we install a tire with more layers (plies) it is going to be stiffer for any given pressure. These automotive tires we are using are going to be rated for...

    un-beliveable battery on 2007 spyder

Still have the original battery in Spyder #006, that would be a 2008 GS model delivered in late 2007. No drop in performance as of yet. Gets hooked up to the Optimate charger once per month during the winter, nothing special. Stored in climate controlled shop, always ridden hard and put away wet!

    Kumho Solus 155/60R15

Certainly. Typically an OEM will use the lesser shocks to a)save product cost and increase margin, b) to simplify the system for the end user. Not having adjustments reduces the chance of an end user screwing it up, but also takes away from the ability to compensate for those outside of the...

    One more tire thread

Agreed, that was my experience as well. I bought up six of the Toyo Proxes 4 tires while they were still available, and am using a Maxxis Victra on my 2008 right now.

This is why it is a no-no to be shipping units with no adjustable preload, IMO. Granted, they should be close for average riders of average weight carrying average loads, but when we get to riders that weigh more and/or carry more, the front end squats and the top of the spindles tilt in, and...

    Kumho Solus 155/60R15

Correct, that is why I felt it useful to share this information. Set the preload so your shock length (when loaded) is as specified, then the ride height is where it should be. You now know more about this subject than some dealers do......

    Spyder Spy Photos-Lamonster take

Ski-Doo owns the sled market and it is a VERY profitable line for BRP. Spyder is also profitable, so one should worry less about losing this as a product line. To say "be happy we still have the Spyder" is more to pacify those who are grumbling. I have to wonder what influence there is by the...

Front tire cupping That info was in a technical document "Theory of Aligning a Roadster" regarding the proper alignment procedure of a Spyder. Roadsters have a unique wheel configuration that requires fundamental knowledge of alignment principles. The relationship between vehicle load and...

    Kumho Solus 155/60R15

Front tire cupping As for the front tire cupping, back to 2008 I have always been of the opinion this has been caused mostly by not enough front shock preload and not enough ride height. Back on the 2008s, when the front tires cup on the inside edges you crank up the preload to get the tire to...

Who has the Oldest Spyder? What's the Mileage? Is it still fun? Any problems?

There we go. Captain Jim and I both kept a 2008 GS while we also have a 2013 ST. I too am glad I kept one of my 2008s, they are still VERY fun to ride. Quicker, faster, better handling, still a complete and total riot to ride. The 2013 sits the rider more upright and is more comfortable, but I...

Strong gas smell as Spyder sits in garage even with recall gas cap

The way I see it is this is yet another case of the EPA screwing things up. The gas gets hot in the tank with the tight confines of the CAT and the Tupperware. The EPA does not want the fumes vented directly to the atmosphere (emissions) so they force the mfgs to vent to a charcoal canister...
