• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Dead Battery?!

A really bad battery can be a load on the electrical system instead of a source of energy. It may simply be the jumping source does not have enough juice to overcome the load of the battery and turn the starter. David

    iphone users

I'm an Android guy but doesn't iPhone have some kind of "shake to control the music" feature? I think if you are listening to music and shake it rapidly, it wil shuffle to the next song? I think you can disable that. But try it with just a pair of headphones to see if I am right...

    Ram Phone/Phablet mount on RS

I have the original International Note and the same Ram Mount on a windshield mount. It is pretty sturdy but I just did not trust it to hold a $600 phone with nothing more than spring pressure. Hopefully I'm just too paranoid and it will work fine for you. By the way, I used this...

Bought used Corbin seat for my Spyder, need a prop rod to refuel

Would love the help, my skill is the digital world, I can't fabricate real world stuff nearly as well as I can write code. I'm trying to get the story from the seller, hopefully he has it. The seat has a threaded insert where the prop rod should be, just no rod. I will let you know once I...

Bought used Corbin seat for my Spyder, need a prop rod to refuel

The first couple of years of Corbin seats have no fuel door at all. The installation instructions I linked to have no step to re-attach the gas shock to hold the seat up during refueling. The instructions show a picture of a prop rod and talk about it but they don't explicitly say if that prop...

Bought used Corbin seat for my Spyder, need a prop rod to refuel

Very good post but that does not help me I think. The newer corbins have a fuel door but these older corbins have a totally different hinging mechanism than the ones from that post. The corbin is in two pieces and the front piece hinges up separately from the rear (that just lifts off with a...

Bought used Corbin seat for my Spyder, need a prop rod to refuel

Now I can see why everyone loves the fuel door. Does anyone have pictures or a source for a prop rod to keep the seat elevated while refueling? Or at least a picture with some dimensions so I can try to fabricate something? Thanks, David

    Seating, luggage and backrest combinations

Thanks for the information. I just got a reply from Jim at Smooth Spyders and he thinks the current brackets are not compatible with the wider Corbin seat but he is considering making some. Time will tell. Don't have the Corbin in my hands yet but hopefully soon. Maybe at the Texas Memorial...

So what are these Spyders selling for?

If it were mine, I would remove the farkles that are easy to remove and sell them separately on this board or on ebay. The bags could easily fetch $500 since they retail for $800 but you are unlikely to get a buyer to agree that they add $500 to the value of the vehicle. As is with all the...

    Texas Memorial Weekend BBQ

I have a family reunion way off near lake fork on Saturday so I will miss most if not all. I want to participate, May try to do a little bit early Friday or late Sunday our both. I really want to check out others mods and socialize but family comes first. With my dad in the grip of...

    Seating, luggage and backrest combinations

So I am in an unusual confluence of events. I have an 08 GS with comfort seat and oem backrest and plate. The last few days I have been thinking about a driver backrest and reading up on the smooth spyder model. Well I just jumped on a good deal in the four sale section, a used Corbin with...

Which handles better, Spyder or bike?

Wow, good stuff. I like hanging out here, the maturity level is generally a little higher. Confirmation bias is a good point. We're all here because we all like Spyders (at least I have not seen any deliberate "trolling" by non-enthusiasts). In addition to the excellent points raised above...

Embarrassing confessions about those of you I see at Spyderfest

I'm probably one of the younger users here (42) and I can totally relate. Don't have the tinnitus but I have a real hard time with memory and hearing. I'm hoping the memory is from my wreck a few years ago and not following in my father's footsteps with Alzheimers. Your honesty is...

    Are we a little different?

Can't make it to spyderfest but I do have a pre teen kiddo at home. I agree that this vehicle is less common among the younger crowd. Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2

    Texas Memorial Weekend BBQ

I will be there unless the family reunion happens that same weekend. FYI, even though the address is "Pearland", look at a map because they are at the extreme SE edge of Pearland. I live in Pearland too and it is a 45 minute drive in rush hour from door to door. David

    More aggressive position... drop bars?

Realize that from a handling standpoint, lowering the bars might make the Spyder ride worse. On a motorcycle that leans in turns, lower bars means your center of gravity moves forward. The rider C of G is closer to "above" the motorcycle C of G meaning that you get better "leverage" when you...

Anybody near Houston have a Corbin seat on their RS / GS?

Thinking about buying the used one on the for sale board, wanted to sit on one first if possible. Thanks, David

Pin out for that 6 pin Diagnostic connector?

Ok, at first you scared me that I was way off track but after looking at the parts, I think we agree in the approach just different ways of getting there. CAN was developed for automotive applications but it is widely used in many industries now. Believe it or not, I learned about CAN working...

Pin out for that 6 pin Diagnostic connector?

Tried and failed at the easy path. Hooked the can lines plus the k line to an Elm327 chip to see if the dialect of can was one known to that obd decoder chip. No joy. That Deutsch connector is an impressive little sucker. Looks very study and water tight. So now I build another cable to...

Pin out for that 6 pin Diagnostic connector?

Doubt it since the BUDS USB adapter is a rebadged USB to CAN adapter. But possible. Made small progress but my CAN enabled Microcontroller had a steeper learning curve than I expected. I was able to exchange CAN messages with another microcontroller but have not yet built cable for Spyder.
