• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Tire Choices

Poking around the tire sites, I see that the Michelin Defender isn't available in 215/60R15 (the same size as my current General), nor in the stock size of 225/50R15. Best match to the Spyder seems to be 205/60R15. The 215 has the happy result of making the speedometer match GPS indicated...

    motor whistle/whine 2017 spyder rt se6

Mine does that too. From what I can figure out in the threads, it's the fuel pump. Some folks had their pumps replaced under warranty and in some cases the noise went away. Once I get rolling, I don't notice it, as my tinnitus is the loudest thing I hear, even with ear plugs. :sour:

    Tire Choices

I'm also curious as to what the current thinking is for a new rear tire. I have a 2104 RT-S. I installed a General Altimax RT43 in Sep 2015; size 215/60R15. The tire now has 21,500 miles on it and the tire wear indicator is hinting I should replace it soon: Wear is even across the tire. I...

Get ready for a new Spyder.

Actually, I'm cool to the notion of a shaft drive on a Spyder. BMW had some problems with one of their RT model runs a few years back. When the shaft drive failed, it failed catastrophically. No chance of roadside repair. Call for a trailer, and hope that your credit card is thick. The...

    For All You Niken Haters

The first thing I thought of when I looked at the picture was, "man, keeping that thing in good rubber is going to be expensive!" When I had my BMW, I winced at the cost of new tires, and their relatively (to a Spyder) short life span. Good two-wheel motorcycle tires ain't cheap. I so glad I...

    BRP Phone Survey

I got one of these calls about two years ago -- that would've been about two years after I bought mine, so it wasn't a follow-up call. I went into great detail about the lousy Kendas, and how they'd be doing the community a huge favor by finding another OEM supplier. I told her that a search...

My wife got me a Spyder for my birthday!!!!

Chocolate!!!! :2thumbs: (Oddly enough, we were at the dealer's today dropping off my bike (a 2014 RT-S) for some work. She looked at a new 2018 RT and asked, "Does this have anything new you want?" Then she asked the salesman standing there, "How much is my husband's bike worth on a...

    Hot weather overpants

D'oh!! I just remembered why I first tumbled to Diamond Gusset jeans! I had heard that their jeans have a diamond-shaped gusset in the crotch (hence the company's name), which makes straddling a motorcycle much more comfortable for men. I bought a pair of their regular jeans, and was so...

My first thought of my new 2018 RT Limited

So, to use GPS on a new Spyder, I have to buy a smart phone ($$$), then sign up for some sort of monthly data plan (more $$$). Then I pay by the month for as long as I own the Spyder (even more $$$). This is great (not!). BRP, in it's pursuit of keeping the cost down, simply offloaded the...

    Hot weather overpants

Back in the day, Draggin' Jeans were only "regular fit," kinda tight for me as I had larger than normal thighs (back then I ran for exercise; nowadays, I lift weights). Diamond Gusset's jeans were, and still are, "relaxed fit." Much comfier, IMO. I see that Draggin' Jeans now has different...

My first thought of my new 2018 RT Limited

I have a cell phone, not a smart phone. Given the privacy risks associated with these gadgets (i.e., the software manufacturers scraping all your personal info off the device), I won't be in a hurry to upgrade my phone. And if I read some discussion in other threads correctly, I can't make use...

    Hot weather overpants

This is eventually what I wound up doing. I rode in Diamond Gusset's Kevlar-reinforced jeans and a Draggin' Jeans Kevlar mesh long-sleeve shirt. I carried a complete change of clothes in a soft bag in the frunk (that's why it's there!)

This is where the Kenda Tires truly belong....

The story I heard sometime back was, when Can Am was designing the Spyder, they put out a call to the tire manufacturers to supply tires. Kenda was the only company to respond. I guess everyone figured it was too small a niche market.

    Clothing while riding

I usually wear Kevlar-reinforced jeans (I think they breathe better than textile pants), a mesh jacket, deerskin gloves, and boots. I currently use a full-face helmet, although I'm looking for a modular one -- easier to take a drink. If it gets stupid hot with matching humidity, I'll forgo the...

    Saddlebags popping open

Good point, but I figured since this was the RT forum....... Peter: Thanks for the heads-up on the latch adjustment!

    Saddlebags popping open

My saddlebags have popped open 3 times recently, twice on the left, once on the right. Lost a rainsuit before I noticed the warning on the display. Yes, I always lock the saddlebags before rolling, and yes, I close the lids firmly. I have learned not to carry anything in the bags (thank God...

    feeling unstable

Physically leaning on a Spyder is not unique -- sidecar pilots have to lean, too. So think of your Spyder as a sidecar rig but with symmetrical thrust and braking. (On a side car rig, the sidecar, when starting from a rest, tends to pull the rig to the right due to inertia, and under braking...

    Hydrographics solve the problem

I'd like to get my dash surround dipped as well. I'm partial to a burled elm look; I think it would go well with my circuit yellow RT-S. Unfortunately, there's no one local that does that, except a few "good ol' boys" who hydrodip guns (Glocks, mostly).

    Bag over the glove box

I miss the nice, big tank bag I had on my BMW RT, especially the clear part for a map. I don't have a GPS; I prefer maps. Nowadays, I just stuff the map under my sheepskin cushion when I'm done with it. Kinda hard on the map, but they're free at Interstate rest stops.
