• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Your opinion on ABS on trikes - good / bad

Goodyear has a tire testing and proving grounds just north of San Angelo, Texas where they test every aspect of Goodyear tires including wet traction on a skid pad. I've seen them test ABS brakes against the ability of their skid pad test drivers. These are very skilled drivers and none of...

    Limp home faults

Since you have already checked and cleaned the battery connections, if you have access to a battery charger, I would charge the battery before I did anything else. Spyders are very sensitive to low voltage so it could be a weak or bad battery as well as loose or dirty connections. Cotton

    key power tap

If your 2011 RT is, in fact, a base RT and not an RTS or RT Limited, instead of having analog fuel and temp gauges, you will have removable covers where the gauges are on the more expensive models. Switched 12 volts is available just behind the right side cover. On my 2010 RT I removed the...

I think my battery is dying.....

The OEM battery that came with your 2012 RT is a Yuasa absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery. You can replace it with whatever you want as long as it is the correct voltage but remember that the battery sits on it's side so it needs to be a battery that won't leak such as an AGM, Gel, LiOn, etc. I...

Can Spyder pull the trailer with the wheelchair?without the mannequin. 500LB's

The specifications for my 2010 RT say the maximum towed weight is 400 pounds. That is the total weight of the trailer and cargo. Maximum tongue weight is 40 pounds. Not sure about later models since I don't have a service manual for them but I doubt it changed through 2013. Maybe the 2014...

    Wind blast

Some very good advice so far, especially from Double Trouble and Chupaca. I love BajaRon's swaybar and it really makes a difference but it doesn't make the wind quit blowing. It is just a fact that the wind is going to move you around. If it doesn't move the bike, it will move you - or it...

Tank bags with Map pocket VS GPS

My GPS is mounted on the bike and I want it to stay with the bike. Although I seldom ride with a tank bag anymore, I prefer having a map pocket on the tank bag so it can be a backup to the GPS. As far as looking at my position relative to where I am going, I actually prefer a paper map. Maybe...

    Travelin' The Back Roads

Isn't that the truth? I'm with you. I ride the interstates only when it's necessary. The back roads are way more fun. I just can't remember what their numbers are. Cotton

    Travelin' The Back Roads

I'm guilty. U.S.Highway 277 runs right in front of our house so I can usually remember it but that's about all. I don't know the numbers or the names but I know where they go and I figured that was all that was necessary. So if you ask me how to get to San Angelo or Ballinger or Winters, I...

    Brakes

Brake fluid does absorb moisture so it is a good idea to replace it every so often. Like many other maintenance items, manufacturers probably recommend more maintenance than might be necessary but I assume that their recommendations are based on the worst conditions. I think the 2 year time...

    I hit a snag.

I know this is a completely different animal but I think I'd be remiss if I didn't mention it. I have seen a couple of sidecar setups built to roll a wheelchair up on and control the bike from the chair. Handlebars were connected to the steering head with control arms and throttle and front...

What else am I missing from my tool kit?

I don't have Fox shocks but I've adjusted pre-load on a lot of dirt bike shocks with a hammer and a punch to loosen or tighten the locking ring and a pair of Channel-Locks to do the adjusting. If you're concerned about scratches, some electrical tape around the jaws will solve the problem. Not...

    2014 RT issue

I agree about the tar & chip roads wearing tires much quicker than hot mix asphalt or concrete surfaces. Texas has been using tar & chip on pretty much everything except interstates for some time now. The rear tire on our Spyders rides in the center of the lane where there is very little wear...

    RT rear tire life

Several things. A number of others had reported using Kumhos and having mostly good luck with them. Kumhos were fairly cheap and made a tire that was the same size as the OEM rear tire. But, I have to admit, the biggest reason was that my neighbor is a tire dealer and Kumho was one of the...

    RT rear tire life

First off, I agree with Dudley, I can tell when a tire is worn out without paying that much attention to the wear indicators. Secondly, it's my opinion that the OEM rear tires on Spyders will always wear out in the center of the tread because the flexible sidewalls on a motorcycle tire design...

    Soft windshield?

Just my opinion, but I would hesitate to use a buffer unless it was a random orbital buffer and I'd still want to test it on an area of the screen that I would never look through. Even though the polish used may not be highly abrasive, I would be scared of leaving a circular pattern on the...

Well.. Bikebandit.com doens't deserve any of our business.

Thanks for the info on Partszilla and cheapcycleparts. I had used Bike Bandit primarily for OEM parts when I needed them. Both of these alternatives look really good. I'll certainly give them a try and tell others about them as well. Cotton

    Spyder won't start.......it's dead Jim!!!!

I'm surely no expert and I know you said that the battery connections were tight. My rule for troubleshooting has always been look at the simple things first. I would remove the battery connections and clean them, then replace and tighten them - dirty connections can be as bad as loose ones...

Well.. Bikebandit.com doens't deserve any of our business.

I expect Bike Bandit can survive without my business in the future and they will have to. I'm sure my BMW, my dirt bike, my wife's dirt bike, and my Spyder will need parts in the future and I expect that I'll be able to find another source for those parts. You know, I don't really care whether...

    Dealership Maintenance Plan

I bought a maintenance plan when I bought my 2010 RT because, while I have always done my own maintenance, the Spyder was much more technical with the computers and things. I had always done my own valve adjustments on my BMW's but they had rocker arm valve adjusters, very simple compared to...
