• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Moving down a dirt/gravel road

The guy who fitted the one in my picture had one stone through his belt so went to the dealers for a new belt. On the ride back home from having it fitted he went through some roadworks and damaged the new belt with two more stones...hence the semi-DIY guard and my comment about hot chip and tar:-)

    Moving down a dirt/gravel road

A rider here has fitted a Spyderpops guard to their F3s with a bit of modification, I don't know the details of where the bracket came from etc. but here's a closeup from a photo to give you an idea of what they've done: Having said that I ride on a lot of gravel/dirt roads and not had an...

Airflow Heat issue on 2008 GS

I don't have any photo's but here's the front part of the pan highlighted in yellow on an exploded diagram of parts. Its just a plastic cover on the underside of the frame: There's a couple more further back as well: Sorry I couldn't find better pictures for you.

    Removing seat on 2009 RS

Looking at your avatar picture you've got a topbox and I'm guessing that's mounted to a rack? Hard to work out if it is or not as its such a small picture. If its not and it is the plastic tailpiece there's there's the single bolt underneath which is sounds like you've found but also a tab...

    2012 vs 2015... RSS

There are two series of RS. Though these look the same there are quite a few differences. Series 1: 2008 to 2012 Series 2: 2013 to 2016 Though the basic engine config is the same they do have different engine model numbers and the tune is very different. The Series 1 have a very rev happy...

    Al Noor Mosque ride

One of the Spyder riders in our local group is an attendee of the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch where the recent terrorist attack by a white supremist took place. He asked if the group could come and give some of the kids affected a ride on our Spyders as a treat. We gave the boom trike group...

    What Model year to consider?

All models will still get updates to their 'computers' when serviced by a dealer but obviously older models are less likely to need updates as: - The systems were simpler on older models. - All possible issues are likely to have been resolved already. There are several different models...

What would you choose? Spyder vs Ryker

I've got an 2011 RS. I do a lot of dirt/gravel road riding so got very excited about the Ryker Rally 900 as it sounded perfect this. I'm not a fan of feet forward sitting position, the stock RS position perfect for me. But I was willing to put up with it on the Ryker to get better off-tarmac...

    My Aux Gas Tank!

Last rally did 500+ kms a couple of times between fill-ups. Was very weird riding along without the fuel gauge going down for ages.

    My Aux Gas Tank!

Got a lucky break with the other guys unlucky break which put me ahead of the game:-) Originally design was going to be a bit more complex with a pump etc but a mate with a Can-am quad bike fitted with an aux tank said he used the vent to connect it which is why I decided to give it a go.

    My Aux Gas Tank!

About a year ago Bfromla - https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/member.php?16361-Bfromla - and I were discussing aux gas tanks and rear racks on the RS, and I was moaning about the problems of sorting one out over here in New Zealand Firstly, the local dealers wanted about US$900 for the rear...

    2010 RS Toolkit

@Stu - Missing the tyre pressure gauge isn't a big issue, they're electronic and I'm sure they are just fitted with a random number generator. I could read the same tyre three times in succession had end up with 3 completely different readings:-) Ended up chucking mine for a standard pencil...

Anyone tried a Seat gel implant?

I do several endurance events (iron butts) a year and got one of Dave's get inserts when the foam on my RS gave up the ghost on one of these 2 years ago. My seat needed sorting anyway so decided it was worth a go. The gel isn't really soft or anything, in fact when you first sit on it its...

    TT2000 2019 - South Island, New Zealand

Not been online for a while but thought I'd post a write-up of the latest TT2000 ride as I normally do one here. For those who are not familiar with the TT2000 from my previous posts then the idea is to do a minimum of 2000km in 48hrs (midday Friday to midday Sunday). Which sounds relatively...

    looking for help getting spyders

That's a shame as I'd heard good things about JFK though I'd never used them myself. The dealers here don't keep much floor stock and Timaru have mentioned to me in the past that they find they re-sell any trade-ins very quickly so seldom have second hand Spyders around.

    looking for help getting spyders

Sorry haven't been on this forum for a while and only just spotted this post. There is JFK Powersports (https://www.jfks.co.nz/) in Auckland is worth contacting, I believe they are the dealer that rent Spyders to Fred Rau tours. Of course that only really works if your flying in and out of...

    A Thread Worth Responding To

Those were taken just before Christmas 2013 when I was working down at Scott Base - that's Antarctica New Zealand's main base just over the hill from the US McMurdo base. These where taken went we went for a 'Sunday Drive' to the Terra Nova hut at Cape Evans where Scott's party were based...

    So it's called the Ryker!

I'll be taking a serious look at the Rally model when it finally gets over here (not holdng by breath). Shame its an auto but to finally get some proper offroad ability will be worth it ...but why a low seat and foot forward again!!! When have you ever seen a foot forward adventure bike? I...
