• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Two Oil Observations ... I think ...

Don't overthink the issue. Your eyes, fingers, schnoz, etc. can't tell you squat about how your oil performs. Ron explained how the XPS oil sheers down to 20 weight far short of the recommended 1330 ACE engine oil change interval. IMO, if one can afford to purchase a Spyder, one can afford to...

Looking at buying - If you are over 80 y/o and ride a Spyder, raise your hand...

There are several excellent previously owned RTLs, MY 2014 and later, on this web site. In your 70s, you're still a pup. Your biggest risk is going to be ancient and distracted cage drivers; they are out trying to kill you. Learn and practice your road skills and road strategy and you will do fine.

So many complaints about the Spyders. Anyone with no problems?

Parking brake motor replaced under warranty at 1 year, nothing else through almost 88,500 mi.

Another Oil Thread (sorry!) - Has anyone tried using Mobil 1 10W40?

I used the Mobil 1 4T 10W40 Racing for one oil change that when analyzed sheared down badly at less than 6K miles so switched to Amsoil Metric full synth and it goes 9,300+ and is always well in 30 range. The Spyder transmission sharing the engine oil beats the devil out of the oil.

DID Make My Mind up! - Big D's Mighty Red Baron has Arrived!

I agree 100% with RiderDuke, age is absolutely a state of mind. If you can and WANT do it, get out on three wheels and twist that throttle.

What General Maintenance is needed at 30k miles - 2017 F3Ltd?

Page 125 of the operator's guide is a marginal editing job because it does not specifically SAY replace brake fluid at 2-year intervals, because it is hygroscopic, and that is regardless of mileage. They had to save a line of print, but at the heading of the 9,300 mile service they did add the...

Anybody used Castrol EDGE Euro 5W-40 A3/B4 Adv Full Synthetic Motor Oil?

If you have followed BRP's Spyder RT operator's guides including and since the introduction of the 1330 ACE engine in 2014 as well as the example you give from the RT repair manual, the term "s**t*y" to describe the editing is grossly kind.

Does anyone know what this wired-in gizmo might be? 2012 RT

That is the strobe pattern module for a Custom Dynamics Magic Strobes Brake Flasher that is no longer sold by CD for 2010 - 2017 RTs. The picture shows the 9 available flashing patterns. PM me your regular email address and I will send you the installation instructions. I mounted my module to...

Trying to decide if I want to start doing my own oil changes - what should I budget?

While I changed my OEM drain plugs, T45 Torx and 6mm Allen as Woodaddict mentioned, for hex head plugs, both with magnets, it is not mandatory. If you choose to retain the OEM plugs, be aware that the threads on the T45 crankcase plug are extremely sharp. Because of that sharpness I wrapped a...

Why doesn't BRP design a stronger Anti-roll bar?

Please pardon my inability to express myself without possibly insulting a questioner. If you tell us how you ride and what kind of performance you expect from a 2023 RT STS, then perhaps the corporate experience of many of the forum participants can possibly alert you to what might be a negative...

Why doesn't BRP design a stronger Anti-roll bar?

The engineers at BRP who design the roadsters establish specifications for an "average" rider, or however they categorize such a rider/driver, the same way the automobile industry designs cages. While you may think the difference in cost for an upgraded anti-sway bar is pennies, the financial...

Is it worthwhile getting an Oil analysis on the first oil change?

Interestingly, the three immediate posts above dovetail with my most recent analysis. ALS Tribology (closest lab to me is in greater Atlanta area) does analyses for Wix/Napa. I sent my latest sample in mid-February of this year after an annual oil change. Normal turn around time is 10 days or...

Is it worthwhile getting an Oil analysis on the first oil change?

Oil analysis is the only scientifically reliable way to tell how engine oils perform. One of the important contents of an oil analysis for our Spyder engines in which the oil shares engine and transmission lubrication and protection jobs, is how quickly the oil's viscosity shears down. The...

What's the Accuracy of the Speedometer?

My speedo reads anywhere from 1 to three mph faster than my GPS depending on how fast I am riding. It's 1 mph faster between 20 and 33 or so, 2 between 35 and 78 mph or so, and 3mph over 80.

Here's Another jump pack compressor combo!

Letting go of my 2014 RTL - what is the best way to sell?

Check the Kelly Blue Book for the current price(s) of your Spyder at its current mileage. If you have invested in farkles over its ownership life, don't expect to recover more than about a quarter of what you spent for them. If you are going to advertise the roadster on SpyderLovers, suggest you...

What exactly does RSS Backrest mount to? Part numbers? Where might I find this??

Based upon the information in my drivers backrest assembly instructions there is a Backrest Base by part name that is listed as a part not available separately. The backrest base bolts to the bottom of the seat with four M6X20 Torx screws, PN 250000712.
