• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What else is in your Garage?

Our garage is in the basement, and is shared with washer, dryer, and furnace. So, not much spare room. Mini lathe, mini mill, grinder, lots of other tools and Oh yeah - 1976 Yamaha RD400c, 1972 Triumph T150V, and the '22 RTL. The 1978 (with '75 engine) GL1000 is stored in the "family room"...

How do you get GPS directions to come over RTL Speakers?

It was this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P94Z9XR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I just plugged phone plug and micro USB into it, wrapped it in packing tape, and shoved it down into the pocket.

Anyone installed a Turn Signal Audible alarm? 2017 F3T

My '79 GL1000 had one (stock), and I added a rather obnoxious beeper to my '51 Ford F1. I would be very cautious adding anything to a CANBUS vehicle, though.

Battery Tenders - should you use them or not?

If the Spyder is wired like mine, it is only connected when the key is on. I use the Electrical Connection Power Portm which is relay switched. Have a standard SAE maintainer connector on the key-off connection and heated gear coaxial connector on the key-on buss.

How do you get GPS directions to come over RTL Speakers?

I had the same problem - could get music to play through the adapter but not GPS turn instructions. Turns out the GPS instructions go over a different Bluetooth mode that my adapter didn't have. A new, different adapter ended up handling it. My Zumo 396 now shows paired in two different modes...

What Loud Horns are available for Spyders?

Have someone with a 2001-2010 GoldWing blow their horn for you. You can find plenty on ebay.

Anyone using Rotella T-6 5w40 full synthetic - ‘22 RTL

T-6 5W40 and HiFlo filter in my 2021 RTL. Used the T6 in my '06 GL1800 for over 125k miles - no oil-related problems at all.

Anyone used a Back up camera as a rear view mirror?

We had an always-on backup camera on the '06 GL1800. Helped to see the Uni-Go trailer and past the wife's arms. Cars behind didn't really appear until they were too close on our model (too wide-angle). This helped alert me when being followed too close. Didn't really help in backing the Uni-Go...

Looking for feedback/input for R/C airplanes

I found that I really enjoyed building RC electric helicopters, but was not only poor at flying them (often attempting subterranean flight), I didn't really enjoy it. Sold all of the kit helis, batteries, transmitter and parts in one lot. Still have some micros, but hardly ever fly them.

    Extended Warranty Purchasing Advice Needed

I had the extended warranty on our '06 GL1800. Used it twice, once for a speed sensor down in the engine, and one month before the expiration, a new seat. Either would have cost more than the extension charge.

2015 RTS Rear wheel/tire replacement - does it HAVE to go to a dealer?

For folks near Knoxville, TN, Aaron Lynch at Lynchworx in Powell has BUDS and a growing Syder clientele. He mounted a rear tire for me on a wheel I carried in. He is off Beaver Creek just behind the convenience center.

2021 RT LTD dash display mode - setting 'Auto' light sensitivity?

I had the firmware update done a few months ago and have to say that it helped MAYBE 5%. Still runs in Dark mode even in bright sun and no shade. Then unexplained it will switch to Lite for a while. At least it doesn't go Lite at night and blind me. I often ride to bike night or church in...

How do you heat your home??

Converted from LP to natural about ten years ago and dropped the heating bill by a factor of three.

Anyone else experiencing Braking instability? What possible causes?

Still <10k miles on our '21 RTL. It is not as stable as I'd like, but used to it and anticipate it, now. Last week several hard stops initiated by brain-dead cagers resulted in controlled ABS stops, which was reassuring. Honestly, for all the publicity and postings about Tesla's AI, I prefer...

Wife's first mountain ride on the spyder

Sounds like a great time for you two. My wife loves the BRP, but resists riding on her own. We try to get on the BRP about once a year. Before getting the RTL last year, it was always on the GL1800. I found the Spyder to be a lot more work than the GoldWing in the mountains, but on freeways...

    Moving down a dirt/gravel road

You are in North Georgia, so your gravel is most likely limestone. Limestone gravel edges rapidly round off and should do less damage than say, granite. The black will be impossible to keep clean with limestone dust, however. That's why my '21 RTL is Chalk Metallic.

Before I buy a 2nd phone… could I just use it for BRP Connect functions?

Put a blank SIM in the phone for your sugar monitor. Use another phone for everything else. Many don't like BRP Connect, so check it out before commiting.

Digital Dash changing color randomly - any Help/advice?

I find the white background much too bright at night on my 2021 RTL. With it set on Automatic (newest software flash) it seems to prefer being on dark mode, but will automatically change to lite mode seemingly by whim. At leas/t it stays dark at night now.

    Winterize? Or leave it be?

I would only add that on my carbureted engines, I idle them with fuel off until they stall, then drain the float bowls. But that is just for the ones that will be idle for several months. But the MAIN thing on carbed engines is to avoid the use of alcohol blended fuel!

Whoa Nellie! Large oil patches on roads left by cars!

God granted me slow reaction times, which allowed me to "drift" the GL1800 through a half-dozen loss-of-rear-traction events (snow, diesel on wet road, sand, oil) and let the bike do its job. By not letting off the Spyder, she danced all over but straightened out all in our lane.
