• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Where did the hearing protection thread go?

I was born with an average 40% hearing loss. However it wasn't an even loss but dips in the middle so low tones are only 20%, high 30% but middle 60%. This meant I never heard birdsong until I started working and was able to purchase my first decent pair of hearing aids. What's happened now...

    Hydroplaning...

In normal rain you can actually have fun riding on a Spyder, while at best on a motorbike its a chore and can be downright miserable. But your right, in very heavy rain when the road starts turning into a shallow lake then like any vehicle the Spyder will aquaplane. To give an example I had...

    Garmin map update.

Here's a fix for the 590 batteries which may work for 660 ones if they have a similar connector: http://outsider-adventure.blogspot.com/2017/06/garmin-zumo-590lm-battery-fix.html Fixed my 590 battery this way.

    Bar ends 2009 spyder?

I used Oxford Carbon Fibre 2 ones, the style fitted in well with my metallic grey RS. However Bfromla's idea is better as it makes them useful. Here are the part numbers if you are interested in the Oxford ones (prices in NZ$, not sure what they are in US$): Carbends1 $59.95 RRP OX582 –...

After owning one, are you guys still hype with it, compared to before you owned it?

Had mine over 6 years now. No plans to change unless Can-am release a new version of the RS - unfortunately the Ryker is too small for me as otherwise I would have got one of those (and kept the RS). No plans to return to 2 wheels either, only reason I will is if I wear out the RS and can't...

Long Solo Trips - What Did You Learn About Yourself?

Ridden in Spain (including Barcelona) but never managed Norway (or Sweden) though I have ridden in Finland. Nordkapp much further north than I've ever managed and well into the Artic Circle, that's quite a trip you're planning there. I've been to Antarctica but never quite managed the Arctic...

    2012 vs 2015... RSS

I've simplified the backend of mine quite a bit with a rear fender off a Kawasaki and led indicators - well except for the "beer barrel" aux-tank: PS Just incidental what's in the background;-)

    2012 vs 2015... RSS

That same thought had gone through my mind but then I thought about the $700 shipping and tax I ended up paying on a part I got shipped from Canada that cost $80 and I thought that probably wasn't a good idea:-) However I am going to see if I can get the part numbers for you as its probably...

    2012 vs 2015... RSS

Yep I've got mine wired that way as well. Make a big difference on country roads with no markings. @MrNewt - No idea why in Canada and the US they are different, I'm guessing its differences in legation. It's like the rear indicators on New Zealand models are massive with a big red reflector...

    2012 vs 2015... RSS

In Australia and New Zealand (and possibly Europe as well) they are separate as shown in the picture: My understanding is in the US they are where we have the high beams and you just have a shutter system inside that changes them from low to high.

Long Solo Trips - What Did You Learn About Yourself?

I'm happiest in that perfect state of oneness with road, spyder and landscape. I don't ride to think, I ride to ride. For it to consume all my senses. A perfect moment stretching out in front and snaking through the landscape.

    Moving down a dirt/gravel road

The guy who fitted the one in my picture had one stone through his belt so went to the dealers for a new belt. On the ride back home from having it fitted he went through some roadworks and damaged the new belt with two more stones...hence the semi-DIY guard and my comment about hot chip and tar:-)

    Moving down a dirt/gravel road

A rider here has fitted a Spyderpops guard to their F3s with a bit of modification, I don't know the details of where the bracket came from etc. but here's a closeup from a photo to give you an idea of what they've done: Having said that I ride on a lot of gravel/dirt roads and not had an...

Airflow Heat issue on 2008 GS

I don't have any photo's but here's the front part of the pan highlighted in yellow on an exploded diagram of parts. Its just a plastic cover on the underside of the frame: There's a couple more further back as well: Sorry I couldn't find better pictures for you.

    Removing seat on 2009 RS

Looking at your avatar picture you've got a topbox and I'm guessing that's mounted to a rack? Hard to work out if it is or not as its such a small picture. If its not and it is the plastic tailpiece there's there's the single bolt underneath which is sounds like you've found but also a tab...

    2012 vs 2015... RSS

There are two series of RS. Though these look the same there are quite a few differences. Series 1: 2008 to 2012 Series 2: 2013 to 2016 Though the basic engine config is the same they do have different engine model numbers and the tune is very different. The Series 1 have a very rev happy...

    Al Noor Mosque ride

One of the Spyder riders in our local group is an attendee of the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch where the recent terrorist attack by a white supremist took place. He asked if the group could come and give some of the kids affected a ride on our Spyders as a treat. We gave the boom trike group...

    What Model year to consider?

All models will still get updates to their 'computers' when serviced by a dealer but obviously older models are less likely to need updates as: - The systems were simpler on older models. - All possible issues are likely to have been resolved already. There are several different models...

What would you choose? Spyder vs Ryker

I've got an 2011 RS. I do a lot of dirt/gravel road riding so got very excited about the Ryker Rally 900 as it sounded perfect this. I'm not a fan of feet forward sitting position, the stock RS position perfect for me. But I was willing to put up with it on the Ryker to get better off-tarmac...

    My Aux Gas Tank!

Last rally did 500+ kms a couple of times between fill-ups. Was very weird riding along without the fuel gauge going down for ages.
