• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Check Engine across spedo screen

I had the exact same scenario play out on the way home today! It was hot, like 96°, and after I filled the tank the Check Engine light came on and the bike went into limp home mode. I pulled into a shady spot and turned off the engine, restarted it, and drove home with no further problems. Weird.

Paint claning products and windshield treatment

Be careful with acetone!! I made a nice income fixing furniture that had fingernail polish remover spilled on it. Acetone will bite the paint, soften it, and generally make a mess of things. For sap, you can use mineral spirits, naphtha, or turpentine. They will remove the sap and any wax, but...

    A Clean Slate No More...

I installed a new California Scientific Tinted Shorty Windshield over the weekend, and then I jumped on the freeway to test it. Much better than the stock windshield at speed; the buffeting from the old windshield was really strong, and the new windshield tamed it right down. No, I don't...

    Another fabulous

Weather here was great. Rode down to San Diego - first time on the 15 between Escondido and San Diego. I don't think I like rain grooves very much - they can be disconcerting!

How do you remove the radio antena?

If you are removing a broken antenna, watch out for those teeny-tiny shards of broken fiberglass. I didn't wear nitrile gloves because they were at least seven feet away from me, and I paid for it. Here's a tip- if you can't see them to get them out of your skin, simply rub hand sanitizer over...

    Poor gas mileage 2012 RTL

I got the manual - it's huge! I agree with your assessment of so-called "gas treatments", injector cleaners, etc. Not much value. However, it is possible to create an immense cloud of smoke by following the Sea-Foam procedure! Facts don't cease to exist simply because they are ignored.

    Poor gas mileage 2012 RTL

Good advice. I think I'll just wait and see; as my skill level improves, I would expect to see a change in fuel efficiency. Maybe up, maybe down!

    Poor gas mileage 2012 RTL

I've driven 340 miles since I bought it, and I haven't checked anything engine-related. I have K&N air filters on my other vehicles, and they all have Amsoil lubricants in them. I already have the oil for the next change, and I'm just waiting to get some more miles on before I change it out...

    Poor gas mileage 2012 RTL

Hey Mike, you are spot-on about how to check mileage. I've been resetting the trip odometer at fillup for many years. My OCD gets all riled up if I don't. I also try to use the same pump, and the same time of day if I can. I haven't had this machine long enough to really understand the effects...

    Poor gas mileage 2012 RTL

Yes, I read through the dos and don'ts thread right after my first ride, and found then that I had been running the engine too slow. Since then, I have been careful to follow the shift point and engine rpm guidelines. I haven't been cruising at 6000 rpm, though. More like 4,500 - 5,200. I have...

    Poor gas mileage 2012 RTL

Rather than hijack an existing thread in the RT Touring forum, I'm opening this one at the risk of being thought a vile cross-poster. My bike is getting 21mpg. I am not a zoom-zoom rider, mostly because I am still a rank beginner. I weigh 180#, and I usually have a computer backpack (sans...

    MPG question

I don't want to hijack this thread, so I'm thinking I should open another one in the RT ShopTalk forum. Please don't think I'm cross-posting; that's even more annoying than hijacking!

    MPG question

The machine is stock, except for the bajaron swaybar and links that I added. It was serviced by the dealer before going on the sales floor- oil change, 10-star (whatever that is), rear brake pads, new rear tire, brake fluid flush. I am a pretty conservative rider, and because this is all new to...

    MPG question

My mileage is way lower Hmm. Now I am not pleased. I have had my 2012 RTL since Memorial Day, and this morning I confirmed that I am getting about 21 mpg. From what I have been reading, I should be getting much more. Heck, 21mpg is not much better than my Honda Ridgeline at 16mpg. Obviously...

How do you remove the radio antena?

The Bike Barn isn't so accommodating. I snapped my antenna last night when I closed up the Barn. The shorty antenna sounds like a great solution!:gaah:

    Small lens below fog lights?

It makes me crazy when manufacturers do this stuff. My farkle-sense says something MUST go there. Kind of like that blank spot in the center of the switch panel between the handlebar heat control and the ride adjustment control.:wrong:

    Incurable modder/farklemonger

OK, I got the Bajaron swaybar and links installed yesterday. I'll take everyone's word about the improvement, but I'm not pushing the envelope enough to know yet.:yikes: I was able to take a twisty road at almost the speed I normally drive it with my truck, and that's an improvement! I think...

    Bike Barn modification

My Bike Barn is on the way. Out here we have ground squirrels that love to climb up into the engine compartments of parked vehicles and nibble on the tasty wires and hoses. Your solution looks great; I need something to keep varmints out!
