• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Most amount of miles/KM you have ridden in one day on the Spyder

Like others here I do iron butt rides. I tend to prefer 2 day events e.g. I did 3,339km (2,075 miles) in 46hrs 9mins, but I did also do one day events like the NI1600. I wrote a post here about the first iron butt I did on a Spyder - In that particular case doing 1707km/1061miles in 19hrs 45...

    08 GS - Don't trust the 'How To's' - Pulling Codes process didn't work!

It always seemed to happen when I was riding at night through the Southern Alps, very distracting even though I knew it wasn't really an issue. One time I covered up the light with some tape:-)

    My Aux Gas Tank!

On my 2011 RS there was plastic insert at the highest point of the tank just in front of the fuel cap (on an RS this is under the seat on the right). The insert had a pipe connector facing forward which would normally go to the EVAP canister. This is what I connected the Aux tank to. I don't...

    What GPS are you using?

On my RS I had a Garmin 590, upgraded to a XT when I got my F3T. Both have worked well but obviously the performance and screen on the XT is far better. Only issue I've had with the XT was in very heavy rain it thought I'd touched the screen a couple of times when I hadn't, obviously the touch...

    Texting while riding - rant!

The only 'group' rides I do regularly are the long-distance checkpoint rallies. With those you get the social part meeting with the other riders at the start and finish, but you do the ride on your own route and pace within the constraints of the checkpoints and time limit. I find normal group...

Would you buy a Chinese motorycle?

My 'as soon as I retire' plan is to buy a Chinese motorbike in Shanghai, ride it to Lisbon Portugal, down to Gibraltar and finally up to Nordcapp in Norway. Mind you I was hoping to retire at 25, currently the target is 55.

Is 29,000 miles good for a rear tire.

With my RS about 9,000km was normal, so I would be just starting my 6th tire by that point:-) The rear on my F3L is definitely going to last a lot longer.

This DeWalt Tire inflator makes inflating the rear tire easier!!

The battery powered tire inflators are great for motorbikes/Spyders. I've got a Makita one and carry that around in the frunk with tire sealant and some tire worms. Helped out another biker who I met in the middle of nowhere with a flat a couple of weeks ago.

    Riding Spyder on gravel roads???

And just to show gravel really isn't an issue, I've done both of these: Skippers Canyon - https://www.dangerousroads.org/australia-and-oceania/new-zealand/55-skippers-canyon-road-new-zealand.html Molesworth -...

Extra fuel idea - what do you think?

That's my problem in a nutshell - I ride with adventure bikes and end up going where they go i.e. no gas for a very long way:-)

2012 RT-S with Fuel vapor smell after riding - Any ideas why?

Ok one cause is likely to be the canister and that's definitely worth doing. Looks like you've found plenty of info on that though there is an article here where from about half way down the page I posted some pictures with arrows etc which may also help (its for an RS but its pretty similar)...

ZX14R Rear fender tail mod on Spyder RS-S

I did the conversion as well so I'll see if I've got any photos kicking around. The ZX14R and 14 Concours both have the same rear fender but one of them (possibly the concours) has some extra metal brackets with luggage hooks which are handy for mounting mini indicators on.

Extra fuel idea - what do you think?

Though things have improved with the introduction of card readers at pumps in the last couple of years it can still be a long way between open gas stations here, particularly if you travel backroads most of the time. I've done 500km+ at night between open gas stations so carrying extra fuel is...

Garmin Zumo 595LM - is it the right one for a Spyder?

Yep the screen is better and more responsive but the biggest difference for me with the XT vs 590/595 is the software and connectivity. If your creating complex routes like me then the XT has some big advantages in this area. 590/595 For complex routes you end up using Garmin Basecamp...

Garmin Zumo 595LM - is it the right one for a Spyder?

I had a the Garmin 590LM for several years (pretty much the same as a 595). I've now got an XT and I've got to say it is a lot better so agree with others that if your going to get one get the XT Both come with standard ram mounts and the bracket to mount on your bars. though I've fitted ram...

When and where was the first time you rode a Can-Am tryke ??

Ten years ago after I bought an RS. This photo was taken about two hours later after a ride to the ferry to take us back to the south island. Had it nine years and it was still going strong: Ended it trading it when I got a F3L but kind of wish I'd kept it, and bought the F3L as well of course:-)

990 spark plug removal - Do I really need to remove the air box?

I replaced the air box with one of JT's air filters which meant getting to the plugs was easy as (plus the induction roar sounded great:-)) I did also fit iridium plugs so I didn't have to change them so often though I still checked them every service.

    Garmin 396 GPS Undocumented Feature

    Where did you start?

First bike a very second hand Honda CG125 which I passed my test on. Toured a fair bit of Europe on this: Most of my bikes were bought secondhand, often cheaply, and all of them ridden until they were completely munted. Only the Intruder 800 and Spyder RS survived my ownership and found new...
