• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

ECM Electronic Control Module gone bad at 18000 miles

It may be a little harsh to say they're trying to steal. I spent a great part of my career as technical service representative for a major European auto company. I found many instances of technicians that didn't have proper training looking at a fault code (DTC) and then going for the easiest...

Kumho Ecsta vs General Altima RT

I put "T" rated Kumho Solus TA11 on the front of my Spyder. "T" means they're rated at full load at 118mph. My Spyder is speed governed at 110mph and I doubt I would ever even run at that speed.

    Another Tire Question

I had 175/65R14 Kumho Solus TA11 tires mounted today. Getting the wheels back onto the Spyder was a chore. I removed the mudguards and had to finagle the wheels onto the lug studs to get them under the fenders. Clearance is tight but doable. So far, I'd have to say they are very smooth and I...

I'd be interested in hearing you thoughts on the Altimax vs Kumho vs Michelin using the stock tire as a baseline.

    Front brake pads need replacing

You can't set a mileage expectation for brake components in my experience. I remember a customer at our shop who delivered newspapers and wore out brakes quickly. I had other customers that drove mostly freeway miles and had phenomenal longevity on their brakes. I'm in Mesa, AZ and would be...

    Junk in the Box

Thanks guys. All the foodstuff was on the "dirty" side of the airbox and it couldn't get past the air filter element, so no harm done.

I'm so glad I found this forum. I bought a previously cared for Spyder a month ago and I'm loving it. I've ridden motorcycles since I was kid - about 45 years ago. Driving the Spyder took a little getting used to, but reading others experiences on this site helped me immensely. Thanks to all...

    Junk in the Box

Today I inspected the air filter element on my new-to-me RS. The seller assured me that major service had just been performed, but I wanted to verify. Removing the tupperware to access the airbox was straight forward. All of the fasteners were arranged logically and it was fairly intuitive...

    Another Tire Question

Yep - tires for my motorhome are over $500/each and I'll never wear them out. After 7 years they'll still look great but they'll get replaced.

    Another Tire Question

Thanks for the link! Good info - although there can be differences from manufacturer to manufacturer even though they carry the same size designation. But, as you point out - the difference is pretty small.

    Another Tire Question

It's the age of the front tires that is prompting me to replace them. Sidewall cracks aren't the only thing that cause tires to "age out." Here's a link to a NTSB presentation.

    Another Tire Question

I'm not a fan of the Kenda tires. IMHO they are low grade Chinese tires sold at a premium price. BRP teamed up with Kenda for OEM and replacement supply strictly for the $$$ they can make. BRP tries to convince us these are "special" motorcycle tires - they're not motorcycle tires and a Spyder...

    Another Tire Question

I recently purchased a 2009 RS SE5. I replaced the rear Kenda with a Kumho Ecsta 225/50r15 tire and I'm very happy with it. The front tires have plenty of tread left at 15,000 miles, but they're obviously the original tires - they have date codes showing they were manufactured in 2009. I don't...

WHY IS GAS MILEAGE SO BAD, COULD IT BE HOT GAS?

    This is truth.

    Fuel Issue

I suggest checking the oil - has the level risen or does it smell like gasoline? If so, it would indicate crankcase dilution from either a rich running condition or incomplete combustion - either of these will cause a drop in fuel mileage.

    Enclosed Trailers

I tow an Interstate 20 x 8.5 car carrier behind my 40' Alpine coach. The trailer has a 7'1" interior height. It's my rolling garage - hauls the Spyder, bicycles, canoe, tools and whatnot. We are just under 65' overall, so we're legal in all states.
