• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Do you use Color Correct O-rings?

I have tried before to get o-rings and ended up with 'close enough' per the seller. I don't like that. Am I the only one who doesn't like 'close enough'?
So I pay the stealership prices.
 
I bought the Can-Am/XPS kit for my F3 and all the O-rings that came with it matched up in color to the OEMs.
 
Color of an o-ring indicates the material it is made of, not just an aesthetic. (https://knowledge.callapg.com/blog/oring-colors) That stated, they all sit in the same oil bath and temperature. Pressure might be slightly difference dependent but they are not in the pressurized oil distribution to the engine and transmission. In over 15 years of doing our oil changes, I've never seen an o-ring that was cut or sheared, regardless of color. My thought, errr, opinion, is that the colors aid in easily identifying which o-ring goes in which spot: there are 2 that are very close in size, which requires attention to get them in their correct locations.

The kits I've purchased from LG and BajaRon are all black o-rings.

Make sure you lubricate the o-rings for installation on their plugs and insertion into their threaded holes. Both plugs should be started by hand and not offer resistance until the o-rings start to seat in their bores.

The metal seal washers on both plugs are the critical ones to prevent external oil leaks and should be new for each installation. That stated, I've reused them on occasion without negative repercussions.
 
Typically, color indicates material, although I'm not sure this is the case with the BRP kit. If you order enough volume, you can get Nitrile rubber (NBR) O-Rings, also known as Buna-N, in whatever color you like.

It is very convenient to have color coded O-Rings. And we have looked into this several times for our kits because I would love to match colors with the BRP kits. But we always run into the same issues.
  1. The size needed does not come in a color other then Black. We could have them special made, but the price would be prohibitive.
  2. Color & Size are correct and off the shelf. But due to the material used, they can be up to 10 times the price.

Rust Red usually indicates a Silicone rubber material. Silicone is superior to Buna-N (and more expensive), but Buna-N is more than sufficient to seal all the locations on a Spyder. I've run Buna-N O-Rings in my Spyder for several oil changes over multiple years with zero issues. The extra money for Silicone O-Rings is a waste of money in the Spyder.

If you use an all black seal kit on your 1330 (it's really a no brainer on the V-Twin). It will go just fine if you change one O-Ring at a time. It's when you remove all the O-Rings and then try to figure out where the replacements go that it can be a problem. Likewise, they have all been black. I have to carefully lay them out in sequence to make sure I get those two rings that are very similar into the correct place.
