Is the rear tire an automobile tire?

TIRE PRESSURE

I can safely post this because I know almost No One here pays any attention to what I have to say....................But if you are running CAR tires on you Spyder ....you need to consider that they are / were made for a vehicle weighing 4 times as much......Sooooooooo the sidewalls are made to carry that weight .....are you still with me on this !!!!!!!......................I run my rear at :yikes: 21 lbs ...COLD ( 2014 RT ).......and the ride is slightly softer and I really think the traction is better..........................I have actually run that tire as low as 12 lbs....and it didn't slip on the rim ( I know because I marked it ).....IMHO....running 28 Lbs or more in a car tire is like filling it foam and letting it harden........................Mike .............PS the fronts are at 15lbs

I pay attention to what you have to say.............

What tires are you running on your Spyder?

Pam

REALLY ?????

I pay attention to what you have to say.............No you don't !!!!!! :yikes: :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

..........Because I told you in Post # 44.....:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:........Mike

 She's right...

"215/60-15...........and don't let anyone tell you it doesn't fit or work ..................I have this size on mine !!!!!!..............Mike & Dee :shemademe_smilie: "

There's no mention of the tire brand in this post...

OMG

No, you didn't. You only said what size. You didn't say what tires :lecturef_smilie:

Pam
..........................Michelin Hydro-Edge 215/60-15........And the reason I didn't mention the brand was because they don't make them any more.......However in the post prior to mine Dee my GF told she was getting the General Altimax RT-43 in 215/60-15.............Also on June 17, in a PM to you I explained the same as above in greater detail ............so No I don't think you pay attention to my comments.

Sorry I'm a new Spyder owner and I'm experiencing information overload :banghead: I forget what I read, and can't remember who said what. Plus I'm old and blonde..... a volatile mixture. I do read your posts and I appreciate them.

I'm leaning toward the Michelin Defender when the time comes.

Thanks for the help Mike.

.......As I told you in the PM.....The RT-43 beat that in the tests and was $30 less...................Mike

Your Spyder is a '15 so the rear wheel is shod with the Kenda tire that has the 2012 compound that BRP changed for the '13 & '14 RTs because owners wanted more traction. The newer softer compound gave more traction at the expense of tread life. Well, duh! As a result of the owner howls of complaint BRP went back to the old compound RT tire that is identified by a manufacturing date later than 2814. I personally think it will be interesting to hear how owners of the 2814 and later tires report their experiences with the harder compound and 1330 engine. IMO, if you get only 6-7,000 miles out of your rear tire you will have had a lot of fun with the loud handle. I don't know what I will do when the time comes for replacement of my second tire.

I am on my second OEM tire on my 2014 Limited. The original tire was changed at 14,000 kms on a trip and I don't know what compound the replacement tire is, but I am just now looking for a car tire bexause the Spyder now has 35,000km on it and the tire is not as worn yet as the original was when I changed it..I suspect the replaced tire was out of the dealer's stock and it is not the same compound used on the early 2014. (Out to the garage) I do see two imposed numbers on it: 1114 and 0509. Made in China!!!

I had all e tires replaced with OEM Kendas in May. At the same time I has it Lazer aligned. I hit a deer last fall and the frame was bent, it even broke the motor mounts. The work they did was spot on since it took very little adjustments. But I've never gotten better than 8000 miles from a rear, and that's the case now, at 7000 it's down to the wear bars. I've used Kunho tires just because they're cheaper, $82 compared to $180. I tried to order a tire from Tire Direct and the guy said he wouldn't sell me that tire for a Spyder. He said BRP called them and told them that tire wasn't safe for Spyder application. So, any ideas?:banghead:

^^ Find another Tyre outlet, that one is obviously fulluvit!! :yikes:

A tyre that exceeds the Kenda's specs in all respects and one that is at least a form, fit, & function replacement or better isn't going to be any less safe than the Kenda is!! Refusing to sell anyone a tyre based upon BS like that just highlights that they have no idea & you shouldn't have a moments hesitation in going to another outlet!!

It's legal liability issues. When you tell a tire seller, to sell you tire that you are going to put on a vehicle it's not designed for .....then they ( tire seller ) are open for a possible lawsuit for culpable negligence ....because they assisted you in what you did..........I know this may sound contrived but it is what it is....If you just order the tire you want without answering any questions and it's easier to do it this way , only YOU know what that tire is going on......Mike

I can see where you are coming from Mike, but off the cuff; in this country (Aust) I suspect that any business that refused to fit or sell a tyre that has specs EXCEEDING that of the specified tyre because the higher spec alternative 'wasn't safe' would be at a far greater risk of litigation & legal liability/culpability in the event of an accident than the reseller who willingly sold the higher spec tyre when it was requested by a customer!! And there's no getting around the fact that the Kenda tyre specified for the Spyder is not as highly specc'ed under the same standards as most 'passenger' construction tyres - the bulk of the 'P' construction tyres in the standard size or those different sizes that are legally permitted generally have higher ply, load, traction, temp, & speed ratings; even the bead profile used by the specified Kenda is the same as that of a passenger construction tyre!! :yikes: (which then raises some questions about the legality of the questionable 'Motorcycle' rating in the first place, let alone the 'monopoly' that BRP is trying to force on tyre resellers & spyder owners by demanding that only their chosen product be sold for spyders!!)

Then there's all the issues & potential lawsuits that'd arise if there was an accident & the operator could show that the reason they were using a lesser spec tyre (like the Kenda) was because BRP had 'forced' a retailer to refuse to sell them their preferred choice of a higher spec product!! :yikes: :yikes: Or the other side of that story, how would BRP go about trying to prove that the higher spec tyre was the cause of the accident in the first place?! That'd once again open up the 'illegal trading' issues raised by standing over resellers to make them sell only the BRP preferred product when there are clearly higher spec alternatives available!!

I'd suggest that even in the 'States, BRP is potentially cruisin' for a bruisin' on this one - and any retailer using the 'not safe' excuse because BRP told them too would be at just as much risk!! ;)

I thought that they used a "motorcycle tire" on the Spyder because the laws of some states require specific tire use on cycles. I do not think the Kenda's are very good, they are soft and wear funny even with meticulous care.

Never heard of THAT law :dontknow:

I don't actually believe that it the States; the D.O.T. has a hand in this...
It's got to do with "putting motorcycle tires; on motorcycles"...

Kenda stepped up, and got their tire certified; nobody else (Other than Vee!), has... :banghead:
