Prior to 2012 us 70+ year olds never considered motorcycles in our lives. Then we got bit by the spyder. We bought a new 2013 RT SE5 in June 2013, put 4300 mi on her (local riding) and just completed our first long roadtrip. From WA we went down the westcoast highway to Santa Monica, then East on Route 66 thru CA and AZ to Gallup NM and return home. 3800 mi and 8 states in 10 days. What a great experience for us. Wonderful scenery and interesting Route 66 highlights(even Burma Shave signs).
No issues with our spyder, she ran like a well made machine that she is. We managed to skirt most inclement weather, except for some high winds in the deserts and light hail and snow in Flagsteff, AZ. I'm not as well made tho, my arms and back would ache after awhile, but I managed thru it, so all is good. We will never forget this trip and we really did get our kicks on Route 66(some of it anyway).
I want to express my thanks to this site and all who contribute your tips, comments and advise on handling spyders and the motorcycle world in general. You all helped my wife and I get started riding. So THANKS!
