• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. They are in financial trouble. Their quality has taken a down turn. They lost huge government contracts which, IMHO, they relied on too much. Don't get me wrong, I like Colt weapons. Their just too expensive and heavy compared to other weapons of equal or better quality. They kind of fell out of favor with me when they discontinued the Trooper model. While other manufacturers were going to composites, Colt stayed with the heavy metal standard in handguns.

Doing business in CT is very difficult with the high corporate tax rate and when I lived there, aircraft part companies were moving out of state, to the south in the late 1970's. I applied for a job with CIGNA in their printing department in 1991 about 4 years after CT Printers filed for bankruptcy and was told they were moving their operations to TN. Add in the new gun control laws after Sandy Hook and many of the gun manufactures have decided to move to NC, SC and TX, with many of their workers going with the company to keep their jobs. Every Company that moves out, most of their employees go with them and CT has lost 300k workers, which will just increase taxes even more, with no one wanting to move into the state. The state income tax doesn't help and the state has been in the Red for years. Colt was offered a new plant in either SC or TX and they put it on the back burner, not knowing what they wanted to do. Colt wanted to stay in West Hartford, (my hometown) and property taxes for homes, cars, boats, bikes went up higher last October. I have two brothers, one in West Hartford and the other in Unionville and oldest wishes he left years ago. Now retired from the state of CT, he would still have to pay the income tax to CT, no matter where he moved to. I left in 2001 and don't miss all the taxes. The gas tax alone is $0.45 a gallon. I told my brothers that to register my truck, Spyder, boat and trailer for one year in FL, it cost me $87.50. :D Before moving here I paid $154.00 to the town for property tax on a car and another $70.00 for a 2 year registration on a 2000 Grand Am GT1. :mad:

Sad to see another American icon failing . . . while I'm particular to Smith & Wesson, I'd love to buy a Colt 1911 some day . . . I guess I should have gotten a Colt instead of the Kimber I picked up a few years ago . . .
 
I don't think this is the first time they filed.
Thought Colt quality has been slipping for a long time. I remember what their finish used to look like on their Python. Smiths have always been light in the frame to me.
Seems CT government has pushed a lot of business elsewhere. The new receiving states all seem appreciative.

I have S&W's all the way back to a S&W No. 1 . . . love them . . . unfortunately, with regard to my revolvers, I haven't bought another since I got my Spyder . . . all my "Gun Fund" savings have gone into farkles! :ohyea:

think I heard they made some bad financial decisions and it bit them in the butt.. sad to see Colt go the way of the dinosaur . they made quality weapons.. I don't own any Colts.. but I own lots of other brands.. won't disclose them on here ...

Carried a M1911 for the better part of 3 years in the Marines & Nam used it a bit & liked its stopping power. Now carry a S&W model 19 with a 2.5 inch barrel Nichol plated, also like its abilities.

I have a Colt 45 Auto. 1911 Government model, this has been the best pistol that I have ever had, the only problem is the weight, I will keep it.it is still like new, it is only about 60 years old.

I just picked up a Kimber 1911 as well. didn't like the feel of the colt. years ago had a colt python. sorry I ever let it go, but in college and needed the bread! oh well!

I had a 4" barreled one that I actually shot so much; I completely wore out the Crane/Cylinder junction! nojoke
I used to lead 148 grain hollow-based wad-cutters backwards, at about 800 fps....
VERY potent medicine! :thumbup:
 
I'm gonna stay out of this discussion. It's way too politically incorrect, and i surely wouldn't want to offend our Spyder friends who are liberal gun haters.
That being said, my oldest handgun is a DEFENDER 89, .22CAL., my oldest fireable handgun is a Forehand model 1901 in .32cal, my newest handgun is aSpringfield Armory XDM40, but my favorite shooter is the Colt M1911A1.
O, yeah, I like shooting my Uberti .44 cap and ball, too. It's just that cleaning it is a b***h.
 
I have a Colt Combat Commander .45 and a Colt Mark 4 Government Model .45. Way to heavy to carry CCW. I now carry one of my two Glock .45s or a Glock 9mm a lot lighter and easier to carry.
 
I hide my .45 in a Galco "SOB" (Small of the Back) rig...
I can even forget that it's there; the weight of the sidearm is never an issue! :thumbup:
