There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Break-in period

I came across a maintenance schedule in the back of a Spyder catalog, and it says that the break in period for the 1330 is 300 miles, and for the 991 it's 600 miles. I was under the impression that I wouldn't have to do the first service on my 2015 RT until 600 miles. Can anyone clarify this?

Thanks

First service on the 1330 is 3000 miles.

Here's the thing..!!

The RS / RSS / ST all do the first service at 600 miles . The RT /F3 do the first service at 3,000 miles. But you can do it before...

Follow what is described in your owner manual.

:agree: Which actually is 3,000 miles... :2thumbs:

Your owners manual is the best place for service information.

The 2015 RT break-in service (oil change/check over) is to be done at 3000 miles.

There is mention that tires and brakes should be treated gently the first 300 miles or so.

Thanks for all the great responses. From what I have read in your replies, the "break in" period, is just the time for babying the engine, but no service is required until 3,000 miles. Is this correct?

This is my first BRP product. With all my previous bikes ( Three Hondas and one Victory), I was instructed to change the oil after 500 or so miles because of the metal particles that accumulate from breaking in a new engine. I may just perform an oil change for my own peace of mind, and then bring it to the dealer for the full blown service at 3,000 miles.

But then maybe I won't. I like the idea of being able to go 3,000 before the first service. What a novel idea :2thumbs:

ohh baby !

actually I 'm not sure "baby" is the right way to treat your engine on break-in.
It certainly won't hurt to rev it some, mainly avoid long runs at a constant engine speed.
Like a couple hundred miles on Interstate with cruise set at 70, is what you want to avoid.
I've always been under the impression if you don't ask your motor to perform a little
while breaking it in, it may NOT perform later when you ask it to.

You've got it

I don't care if BRP says that you can go 3,000 miles before your first oil change. This is just good marketing. Yes, your engine will break in in the first 500-600 miles and yes, the small metal particles will get in your oil and oil filter. Required or not, consider changing the oil and filter before the required interval of 3,000 miles. Then change it again at 3,000 miles to maintain your warranty coverage.

The tech at my dealership and I kicked this around quite a bit... :D
We finally agreed that it's a good idea to "take it easy" in the engine for the first five or six-hundred miles...
After that; ride it in the manner that you normally would...
:lecturef_smilie: And get the bike in at 3,000 miles! :2thumbs:
