• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Looking to upgrade

Hi everyone, looking to upgrade from my 2008 Spyder GS to an RT, what's your opinion on the best year to purchase with respect to problem years etc? Also I'm wanting to stick to the SM5 series. Thanks Vern

If you want to get the most out of it, go for a 14 or 15, Bigger tires, engine, brakes etc.

If you're truly wanting to stay with the Sm5 / 998 2012 was a very good year but IMO if you're going to upgrade I'd get 2014 where you get all the benefits of the 1330. You can still get a manual shift if that's what you're looking for and there are some great deals out there.

Also one of the been there, done that people.

Best year for a used RT 998 is 2012. The new 2014 and 2015 1330's are vastly improved from many points. More power, torque, quieter, less maintenance, better gas mileage, and slightly increased cost.

:shocked: You never mentioned any budgetary guidelines... :dontknow:
Since I'm so good at spending other people's money :D: get one of the 2015 RT-S Special Editions! :thumbup:

There you have it..

as I took a quick poll...:roflblack: the RT 2012 Sm5 is the SL choice...:thumbup: happy hunting..!! :yes::yes:

:shocked: As folks now scramble to buy the "Best" of the 998 machines; do you think that we've screwed up the used vehicle prices at all? :yikes: :D

I sure hope so. I may want to upgrade to a triple at some point and would like to get the max$ out of my 2012.

RT PURCHASE

IMHO, it's a total waste of money buying anything that doesn't have the 1330 engine in it. How are you going to feel if BRP ....STOPS putting the V-twin in any Spyder ................just sayin.....Mike :thumbup:

:shocked: Mike...
Everybody has to find their own "Comfort Level", with the cash outlay... :thumbup:
Otherwise; it becomes a lot like this!

Sorta like how I felt when Ford stopped making Mercury. I'm still driving my Mercury. The 998 is still a serviceable engine and we have no reason to simply dismiss it. Not getting rid of a good bike. Just Sayin'

Go with a 2014 RT you'll love it, bigger engine, more storage, smoother ride, plenty of fun. You'll love the bigger engine, the performance is so much better and overall it is a totally different bike. You'll be glad you switched.
