• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Jacking Up the Spyder

WEB-WVR

New member
So I have a bumpskid to install, may have other reasons to jack up the Spyder in the future.

QUESTIONS:
I looked at Spyderpops web site and he has photos there on raising the Spyder. He brings the jack in from the front, up she goes and then places the jackstands. ?: Where are you placing the lift point of the jack ?....he says go back all the way....is it a solid plate of steel under there ? I dont want to jack in a "soft" area and break something........???

We have a new harbor freight here...
?: What low profile jack would you suggest I purchase, photos appreciated, beer later !

I will block the back tire and set the brake too. Is it correct to assume that the brake locks the rear wheel ? it could as easily lock the front ?

It would sure be nice to have a full lift would'nt it ! :yikes:

Thanks for the advice !

As you mentioned , slide the jack in from the front , locate it just behind where the back of the bump skid will start , this is where the frame is .
The frame is heavy duty and will easily cope with the Spyders weight , just make sure you don't lean on either of the front wheels as its on the way up

Here's what you need....

I find the best is to use the atv/motorcycle lift.

if you lift from the front use a floor jack (blue one) and roll back to the frame...

Thanks for the comments. I like the yellow jack & Harbor F has something similar. Looks like I get to go buy some more man toys !

I will make sure I get the jack back beyonf the Frunk and in line where the foot pegs are. ;)

Three ramps

This how I do it:
Get 3 portable car ramps. Put one to the rear of each wheel. Back up onto the ramps. Don't go too far!
This gives you all kinds of room under the Spyder.

I use an ATV/Motorcycle Jack but because the Spyder is still so low, I first drive it up on 3 pieces of plywood. Its kind of tricky to find that sweet spot that jacks the whole thing up with support. When I had my Yamaha Tour Deluxe, the folks on those forums had designed a pattern using 2x4s and plywood to place on just the right spots in between. I made one of those up and it worked well but it involved first driving the bike up on wood to be able to get it all in the right place.

I like that! I just need another ramp. Thanks

So the VISA hauled me down to our new Harbor Freight. I got the type shown in yellow above. It is BLUE and has both extra support arms, one on each side....some of the newer ones only have it on one side. $189.99 - 20% coupon = $152.00 I thought that was a great price. Thanks for the advice guys. My VISA loves you....my wife....not so much !
