Riding with Slingshots

Let me post a motorcycle photo so the other forum members will stop puking on their keyboard looking at that Dodge car .......

So here is where I have to differ with you. I love my friend's Slingshot, so I'm not bashing it at all. I get it, and I get why some people will prefer it over a Spyder (although I'm not one of them). No question about it, they rock.

That said, I just can't see a Slingshot as a motorcycle. It is wide like a car, you have a steering wheel, you sit in it with a side-by-side passenger, and it looks like a car (as much as it looks like anything). The layout, except for the third wheel, is absolutely car-like. You shift with a stick shift, and there is an accelerator instead of a throttle. Yes, I know that the lack of safety features and the third wheel necessitate a helmet, but it really looks and acts like a very cool sports car or a race car. You wear helmets and protective gear in race cars as well; that doesn't make them motorcycles.

I know that Spyders are controversial under the motorcycle moniker, but if a Harley or Goldwing trike is a motorcycle, then a Spyder certainly is as well. Can-Am just did a better job of it.

That's a killer ride you have, but it isn't a motorcycle.

They say that the Charger Hellcat is THE ONE to have! The longer wheelbase can put down more of that beloved horsepower to the pavement! :bowdown:

They are both very over weight. Need to loose about half a ton to make use of the HP. I'll keep the GT a while longer

:agree: I agree 100%. SS is a fun car, would love to rent one for a weekend sometime but its NOT a motorcycle.

That's Mulholland drive. It's fun but there are even better roads in the San Gabriel mountains

I was reading their forum and this year's models have a bunch of problems, even a recall. Panel fit, paint job, brakes to small for the weight/speed, fiberglass dash issues. Even if I got one, which I admit they have a cool factor, it will be in a few years when they get all of the bugs fixed.

Us early adopters did suffer through some problems. I'm here to say it was worth every recall and bulletin. I'm sure the Slingshot folks will feel the same.

Exactly. A friend traded in his Harley trike for a Slingshot. He needs 3 wheels for the sake of his lady's health issues, a situation he and I have in common. A Slingshot is a cool ride, but he also went out and bought an Indian Roadmaster not much later, I guess the Slingshot doesn't quite fulfill his riding itch.
I do still plan on getting my ironhead Sporty on the road, but not out of a need for riding pleasure.
The Spyder says motorcycle much more clearly than the Slingshot.

I have had 3 recalls that were Polaris issued (all at once) and the parts were delivered and all was fixed within a few weeks...... Considering this machine is only a few months old, I'm cool with it. :thumbup:

I got this in the mail Yesterday....... 2 months added to my warranty, an apology and a bluetooth speaker !!!!! :2thumbs:

I have to admit I thought about a slingshot but once I saw one on the road I decided it wasn't for me. While I don't want to diss any ride the slingshot looks chopped up and unfinished to me. If I was going to get something that large I would spend the extra and get a T-Rex.
